Civilian passenger accidentally ejected from fighter jet during ride-along

%name Civilian passenger accidentally ejected from fighter jet during ride along by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The vast majority of us will never strap into the seat of a fighter jet, and the few who will (or have) probably have extensive military experience to go along with it. Civilians rarely get the chance to ride along with military pilots in their planes, but it does happen under certain circumstances.

Unfortunately for one 64-year-old man who had the privilege of riding as a passenger in a French Rafale fighter jet, the experience ended far too soon, and with considerable pain, after his ejection seat triggered. Needless to say, this isn’t supposed to happen.

Google is apparently starting to become the farm team for Apple’s artificial intelligence work.

The iPhone maker has just poached another AI expert from the search giant — 34-year-old Ian Goodfellow, a rising star in the field who, in addition to Google, has also worked at the OpenAI lab backed by Elon Musk. His LinkedIn profile shows he’s now heading up machine learning in Apple’s secretive special projects group.

Japan’s asteroid probe just blew another hole in the space rock Ryugu

%name Japan’s asteroid probe just blew another hole in the space rock Ryugu by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Japan’s Hayabusa2 asteroid probe has been in orbit around the space rock known as Ryugu for months now, and in February it attempted its most complicated maneuver yet. The spacecraft fired a projectile into the surface of the asteroid and snagged some samples which it will eventually attempt to deliver to Earth, but it mission was far from over.

Now, less than two months later, Japan’s space group JAXA has cleared the probe to attempt another sample-gathering maneuver, requiring that the spacecraft use an explosive device to launch a projectile at the rock’s surface. Hayabusa2’s handlers back on Earth say that it appears the probe and its impactor did their jobs, and they have a photo as proof.

Google Maps is getting an even better incident reporting feature

Google earlier this year added a neat Waze feature to Google Maps meant to improve your navigation experience: Crowdsourced traffic data. After having been spotted in testing for several months, the incident reports feature rolled out to Google Maps for Android, featuring support for two different types of reports, including Speed traps and Crashes.

Moving forward, Google is bringing support for a brand new kind of incident report to the mobile app that will let you easily mark traffic slowdowns.

Galaxy S10 in-display fingerprint sensor tricked by 3D-printed fingerprint

%name Galaxy S10 in display fingerprint sensor tricked by 3D printed fingerprint by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 was one of its most significant product launches of the past few years, bringing with it a host of upgrades, including the triple-rear camera and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, the latter of those two upgrades has been the subject of multiple complaints since the phone’s launch, the latest of which might be the most worrisome of all. As it turns out, the sensor isn’t nearly as secure as it should be.

In a post on Imgur this week, a user going by darkshark demonstrated how easily he was able to trick the in-display fingerprint sensor on a Galaxy S10 with a 3D-printed fingerprint. It’s hard to imagine anyone going to these lengths to get into someone’s phone, but that fact that it is possible is still incredibly concerning.

AT&T was declared the fastest US network, but its rivals aren’t having it

Emails started being sent out to reporters the moment Ookla announced the results of its latest speed test, in which it declared AT&T as the fastest wireless network in the US. T-Mobile, for example, quickly claimed that AT&T misled its way to a win — one that displaced T-Mobile, the frequent winner in both Ookla as well as OpenSignal speed tests.

NASA’s asteroid probe shot Bennu with a laser, and this is the result

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission has been steadily progressing since the spacecraft arrived at the diamond-shaped space rock known as Bennu a few months back, but not everything has gone completely to plan.

The rock ended up being far more, well, dirty than NASA originally expected. Bennu’s surface is absolutely packed with debris, posing a challenge for NASA’s team that still has to decide where to have the probe touch down on the asteroid to collect samples. Now, using a laser instrument built into OSIRIS-REx, NASA has a detailed look at how dangerous the surface truly is.

New iPhone 11 Max render shows off a triple-lens camera design

%name New iPhone 11 Max render shows off a triple lens camera design by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Try as Apple might, the company simply can’t keep iPhone rumors from springing up every single year. Despite Tim Cook’s promise a few years back to “double down” on product secrecy, the reality is that Apple’s supply chain is so vast that it becomes practically impossible to keep tidbits about upcoming iPhone models from seeing the light of day.

With that said, we’re already starting to see a steady stream of reports regarding Apple’s next-gen iPhone lineup. Specifically, a number of credible sources have indicated that Apple’s 2019 iPhone lineup will closely resemble its 2018 iPhone lineup, which is to say that there will be a 6.1-inch device with an LCD display along with two OLED models in 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch flavors.
