As previously expected Google on Friday made the final Android 5.0 Lollipop SDK version available to developers, who have already thoroughly inspected it, pulling out various apps and other Lollipop elements (wallpapers, fonts and boot animation) for other Android users to enjoy. Among the things users who installed the SDK looked at is the usual Easter Egg Google hides in every Android OS version, finding a pleasant, and strange, surprise.

The Chromecast dongle is one of the most popular gadgets Google launched in the last few years, according to the company’s own past statements, but a second-generation model is yet to hit stores. But when it does come out, a new Chromecast won’t have any new features to offer users, Google has confirmed, after an FCC filing outed the second-generation device.

Google was shameless about teasing us all about what the “L” in “Android L” stood for until this week when the company finally revealed that its latest software build would be called Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Android Developers Conference has written a humorous post that details some of the “rejected” Android L names and logos, although the site notes that none of these were ever under real consideration by Google and that it made all of these concepts up just for fun.

Android Silver was supposed to be Google’s next-gen line of high-end devices that would offer users access to top hardware and a stock Android experience. While the Search giant never confirmed these plans, reports said that Google wanted to replace Nexus and Google Play Edition smartphones and tablets with Android Silver, with some people even claiming the Nexus 6 might have been sacrificed in the process.
However, it turned out that Google had to postpone its Android Silver plans, and the company confirmed soon after I/O 2014 that it isn’t interested in dumping the Nexus device line.

One of the lesser moons of Saturn, Mimas, has been largely viewed as a boring lump of ice. But a new discovery has suddenly turned this moon into hot property: its rotational wobble turns out to be far stronger than expected. Mimas is almost perfectly spherical, so a robust wobble implies that something intriguing is going on below its surface… and that something is very likely to be sloshing. The most likely explanation for the wobble would be an internal ocean starting between 24 and 31 kilometers below the moon’s surface.
This would be something of a puzzle in a moon as small as Mimas — how could a liquid ocean remain warm enough for billions of years? One possibility is that the elliptical orbit of Mimas creates tidal friction strong enough to maintain a warm core.

Did you know that if Apple and Google encrypt data on smartphones then terrorists, pedophiles and other very bad people will be able to roam completely free and likely destroy society as we know it? That’s the message that Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey has been sending and he was at it again this week in a speech delivered to the Brookings Institute in which he railed against smartphone encryption as a direct threat to law enforcement’s ability to gather evidence.

Apple on Thursday released the final build of OS X Yosemite, which became available to Mac users as a free download from the Mac App Store. However, not all Mac users were able to install it on their devices, as their Mac App Store apps would not make the update available. In case you’re one of those people still checking to see whether the update is ready, you should know there’s a simple explanation of why you can’t update: You’re already running it. Just click on that download button (as in the image above), and your Mac will tell you that you’re already running OS X 10.10.

Despite some early indications that Microsoft might have finally found a way to combat the sales chart tyranny of the PlayStation 4, the latest numbers from the NPD Group say otherwise. In an email correspondence on Thursday afternoon, Sony confirmed that the PS4 had achieved nine straight months of chart-topping success, tripling August’s sales figures.
