Dumb debit and credit cards that can be easily replicated by hackers after stealing the data in their magnetic strips — which is what happened with card data stolen in cyber attacks hitting Target, Home Depot and many others — will be a thing of the past in the U.S. starting on October 1, 2015, as they will be replaced by more secure chip-and-PIN (also known as EMV) cards. However, Wired reports these cards aren’t as secure as you expect, and hackers have already found a way to steal money from them without actually needing access to the cards.

Earlier we brought you word about a new report from Business Korea that claimed Apple might have to institute a hugely embarrassing recall of 128GB iPhone 6 Plus models because they seemingly crash and reboot at random. The “Bendgate” issue impacting Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus first came to light shortly after the new phones launched in September, and Apple took a page from its “Antennagate” playbook when addressing the issue problem. Rather than admit that there might be an issue, Apple downplayed the problem and had various newspapers and tech blogs write about its impressive labs where the new iPhones were torture tested ahead of release. The company then issued a statement alongside those reports saying that only nine customers had complained of bent iPhones so far, and Apple has been silent ever since.
Of course, we know for a fact that far more than nine iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets have bent in people’s pockets. Beyond that, we know that Apple is now well aware that this issue is more widespread than it initially suggested.

Most people think of Uber as a cheaper and more convenient alternative to taxis… but that’s not always the case. Local Fox affiliate WGHP in Colorado reports that one Uber customer got charged a whopping $539 bill just for an 18-mile ride on Halloween night. And while this sort of massive charge sounds like it was a mistake, it turns out that it’s all part of Uber’s pricing scheme.
