Just in time for the release of Android 5.0 on most of its recent Nexus devices, Google has published a new series of Android commercials on its YouTube account. Like the commercials before them, these ads all feature Androidified characters, which I can’t help but think are far too reminiscent of South Park’s take on Canadians.

It’s been an exciting year for incredible videos shot from outer space, as just this week we’re being treated to a live video of scientists’ first attempt at landing a probe on a comet. YouTube user James Tyrwhitt-Drake has put together a beautiful 4K timelapse video of the sun that uses over 72,000 images take from NASA’s solar dynamics observatory to show us what the sun looks like as it makes its rotation.

Apple has been widely criticized for its tax practices in Europe, where it managed to avoid paying big taxes thanks to the special deals it has in place with Ireland and Luxembourg. A new report from The Australian Financial Review, which cites an investigation led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, says that Apple’s iTunes earnings in the region go mostly untaxed as well.

YouTube’s long-rumored premium music service has finally materialized. Google announced on Wednesday that it would be debuting an ad free subscription service called Music Key, which will allow for offline play and background listening. The service will cost $9.99 when it launches, but for now it will be offered at a promotional price of $7.99.

The Datsun 240Z got a lot of things right when it was introduced, with handsome styling, strong performance and a reasonably affordable price. And while the coupes grew a strong fan base in North America, they remained quite a rarity in the UK. Decades later, a father and son in England have latched onto the car and bonded over their shared love for two completely opposite takes on this Japanese GT
There’s already quite a collection of exotics in Mel Streek’s garage, and his rat rod 240Z, which he calls the Ratsun, definitely doesn’t fit with the rest. On the outside, the Datsun looks ready to fall apart, but it’s mechanically perfect underneath. Alternatively, Mel’s son, Ollie, has a completely different take for his Z with its perfect, shining paint.
Both Zs sound amazing, though. They have a mechanical, somewhat coarse exhaust note that’s intoxicating to hear. You can definitely tell there’s some work going on under the hood. When Apple released iOS 8 two months ago, many app developers were primed and ready with an optimized update for the new mobile operating system. Netflix wasn’t one of them, but on Tuesday, the team behind the popular streaming service announced that the latest update had finally arrived. Version 7.0 of the Netflix app includes full iOS 8 support, Chromecast improvements and, most importantly, 1080p streaming on iPhone 6 Plus.

Hollywood is not done fighting online piracy, and it has come up with a new weapon against illegal movie and TV show downloads, Re/code reports. A new entertainment search website has launched, and it will tell you where you can watch certain films and TV shows online legally. WhereToWatch.com, built by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), is already available online in beta, and it’s ready to point Internet users who are looking for online entertainment to legal video-streaming services.

The conventional wisdom after the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus was that Apple would steal back some market share from Android as Android users who love owning big phones would flock to the new devices. However, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has shared some new research with us that suggests that the bigger new iPhones aren’t picking off quite as many Android users as we thought they would.

Verizon has some special holiday sales planned for its subscribers, and its ready to offer certain “gifts” to customers two days before Black Friday starts, CNET reports. The carrier will host a special Connection Day on November 26th, a day before Thanksgiving Day, in order to offer customers more ways to stay connected with family and friends, and free entertainment while they travel back home for the holiday.

In the past seven or so years, smartphones have become increasingly useful and capable. Their impact on society has been huge; they have quite literally changed our lives. For most of us, that change has been for the better. People are now constantly connected to the information they need and the entertainment they want, and people in less developed countries now have access to the Internet that is far more attainable.
