Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 might have a huge upgrade we didn’t see coming

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

2018 saw Samsung release three of most boring flagship smartphones we’ve seen in years, and 2019 was supposed to be a complete reversal for the world’s top smartphone vendor. So far, however, things have been mixed. Samsung started out very strong in 2019, releasing three remarkable new smartphones that make up the Galaxy S10 series. The Galaxy S9 series phones had the same design as their predecessors and no compelling new features at all, but the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ were fresh and new, inside and out. Android fans loved Samsung’s new all-screen design and the big camera upgrade, and sales have reportedly been quite strong so far.

After knocking it out of the park with the Galaxy S10 series, Samsung completely whiffed with its new Galaxy Fold smartphone. Even if we completely disregard the fact that it was a piece of junk and the release had to be delayed while Samsung figures out how to make it less of a piece of junk, the design of Samsung’s first foldable smartphone is horrible. Both screens are surrounded by massive bezels, there’s a huge notch bitten out of the top-right corner of the main display, and you can see a big crease down the middle of the screen while you use the phone. It’s a $2,000 embarrassment.

So far in 2019, Samsung has racked up one big win and one big loss. Thankfully, it looks like the company’s third new flagship phone of the year will be another check in the win column.

iPhone 11 and 11 Max case leaks might confirm Apple’s biggest design change

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With some four months to go until Apple unveils the 2019 iPhone series, we’re getting more and more leaks teasing specific design changes for this year’s iPhone generation. Before you get too excited about an entirely new iPhone design, you should know that all these leaks seem to suggest the same thing. Apple has planned a major camera upgrade for the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11R, which will influence the phone’s rear design. But, overall, the phone will have almost the same design as the iPhone XS and iPhone XR phones. A couple of images showing purported iPhone 11 cases seem to reinforce existing rumors.

Dire new figures show the cable industry is now losing 14,000 subscribers every day

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At this point, it’s pretty hard to argue that the traditional pay TV industry is not living on borrowed time, as it continues to bleed subscribers who are increasingly flocking to cheaper, streaming solutions.

2018 hit the industry particularly hard. Pay TV including cable and satellite providers lost 3.2 million subscribers, and as we mentioned earlier this week, the industry’s losses during the first three months of 2019 mean the industry is already a third of the way to hitting that same unfortunate number again.

Octopus gets sweet revenge on live streamer trying to eat it

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

People throw around the word “karma” a lot whenever something bad happens to someone, but it’s hard to find a better example of real, actual karma than this video of a Chinese internet personality being attacked by her would-be meal. The clip, which made the rounds on Chinese social media before spreading on Twitter and elsewhere, falls right into the spot between hilarious and frightening.

In the clip, a girl who apparently goes by the nickname “Seaside Girl Little Seven” online can be seen with a face full of tentacles after the octopus she was trying to eat had other plans.

Chinese consumer electronics brands like Huawei and Xiaomi have been on the ascendancy these days, thanks to everything from their ability to produce premium-quality devices at an affordable price as well as their appetite for smartphone experimentation at a time when consumers elsewhere have been cooling to the now-familiar mobile form factor and experience.

Huawei, which has been simultaneously the most ambitious and controversial of the country’s leading technology names, is aggressively chasing more smartphone market share. And now we have the first look at yet another handset design the company may have in the works.

Every free NES game added to Nintendo Switch Online in May 2019

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The slow trickle of free NES games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers continues this month with three new titles, including the classic Donkey Kong Jr. As Nintendo notes in its newest newsletter, this brings this total number of free NES games on the Switch to over 40, all of which have enhanced online features to boot.

We’re still anxiously awaiting news about other, more modern consoles being added to the selection, but until then, this is a reasonably solid lineup for May. That said, there are only so many worthwhile NES games worth adding, and the addition of SNES or N64 titles would be a welcome change for countless Switch owners.

San Diego man arrested after rifle-shaped bong causes gun scare

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A gun scare prompted San Diego police to close downtown streets yesterday after reports of a man waving an assault rifle out of a hotel window began flooding emergency lines. Acting out of an abundance of caution, police promptly locked down the area while they investigated the reports, with a police helicopter providing aerial support.

When officers searched the third floor of the Palms Hotel they found something they didn’t expect. The man and woman who were staying in the room where the rifle was spotted were actually just smoking marijuana out of a gun-shaped bong. Oops.
