Watch SpaceX launch its Falcon Heavy rocket live right here
After a stellar start to 2019, SpaceX’s string of good fortune came to a halt when its Crew Dragon capsule exploded during a recent static fire test. The investigation into what caused the “anomaly” is still ongoing, but the show must go on, and the company is set to launch its Falcon Heavy tonight for only the third time ever.
The launch is a late one, with the launch window opening at 11:30 p.m. EDT, but since this is SpaceX’s biggest, most powerful rocket — and since it’s only been launched two times before tonight — it’ll obviously be worth staying up for.

‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ couldn’t match the early success of ‘Pokemon Go’
After launching a day early in the US, the new AR-based mobile game from Niantic that draws from the magical world of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter does an admirable job of following up the company’s previous smash hit mobile game, Pokemon Go.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is now available to download and play in 130 countries, and it’s off to a pretty good start, at least judging by the critical reaction which has largely praised how well the game incorporates the use of augmented reality.

Huawei’s foldable phone will ship with Android, despite US ban
We’ve had two foldable phone reveals already this year, but you still can’t buy either model in stores.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold was recalled for repairs after early reviewers discovered that the foldable screen can be rendered useless with relative ease. Huawei’s Mate X was just postponed to September, and we thought at the time the Galaxy Fold’s fate was to blame for the delay. However, we have more details about the Mate X, and it looks like the phone will launch on time, running the Android version you know and love.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are catching a ride on hospital flies
When you’re particularly sick, you go to the hospital. Health care facilities like clinics and hospitals can improve our quality of life, but they may also have the potential to bolster so-called “superbugs” which are antibiotic-resistant versions of some of the most troublesome bacteria.
In a new study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology, researchers took a close, hard look at insects — specifically, flies — present in hospitals in the United Kingdom, and they found that not only do the airborne bugs carry bacteria, but much of it is also the kind that doctors fear most.

Samsung adds an affordable, wide-angle camera to its lineup of SmartThings products
Samsung’s SmartThings product ecosystem just got a little bigger today, thanks to the company’s announcement of a trio of affordable new products that serve as both entry-level smart home devices and a way to undercut the competition a bit.
The centerpiece of today’s announcement is the $89.99 SmartThings Cam, which the company says combines clear detail in full HD, High Dynamic Range wide-angle video with advanced object detection — and which can also detect motion fairly quickly.

Galaxy S10 updates have made its night mode just as good as the Pixel’s
Google has yet to achieve the same mass market appeal with its Pixel line as Apple has with the iPhone or Samsung has with its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note phones, but there are several things that the Pixel does better than its biggest rivals. One of the Pixel 3’s most impressive features is Night Sight, but following a series of software updates post-launch, Samsung has closed the gap and possibly even surpassed Google with its Galaxy S10.
XDA recently published a fascinating review of the Galaxy S10 focusing exclusively on how far the camera has come since the phone’s launch in March. Many of the most exciting advancements in smartphone camera technology have come via software updates, so it makes sense that phone cameras would continue to improve post-launch. What’s surprising is just how much the Galaxy S10 camera has improved in just three months.

Apple reveals that it only collects revenue from about 0.5% of Spotify subscribers
Over the past few months, Spotify has been exceedingly vocal and critical about the way in which Apple manages the App Store. Specifically, Spotify takes issue with Apple’s 30% cut, with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek a few months ago categorizing the 30% figure as an unfair tax on competitors that have to compete with Apple.
For what it’s worth, Spotify stopped taking sign-ups via the app in 2016, which is to say that Spotify now pays a 15% cut to Apple for users who previously signed up for the service via the app. That notwithstanding, Spotify has passionately argued that Apple’s rules regarding the App Store run afoul of antitrust law.

Facebook takes another completely unnecessary shot at Apple’s business model
Facebook and Apple have been taking thinly veiled shots at each other over the last few years, the cadence of which really picked up in the wake of Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal and the ensuing heap of troubles that followed in its wake.
Suffice it to say, the biggest social networking company in the world finds itself fighting against headwinds today that include an enormous amount of mistrust, with even its CEO recently joking the company doesn’t exactly have the best record when it comes to privacy.
