Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7th, although we already know most of its secrets. Like the fact that it’ll come in two sizes, each one featuring a triple-lens camera array on the back — the bigger Note is tipped to get an additional camera sensor. A brand new report does say that the Note 10 will feature a Time-of-Flight (ToF) camera on the back, from the same source that hinted at the same upgrade a few weeks ago.

Reuters: Apple paid Samsung $684 million for unrealized iPhone OLED screen sales

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Since Apple started the transition to OLED screens for the iPhone, we’ve been hearing reports that Apple kept cutting orders for Samsung, its biggest supplier for the iPhone X and iPhone XS models, as a result of weaker than expected sales. A story from Korea said a few days ago that Samsung has been seeking compensation from Apple for unrealized OLED display sales for the iPhone. Now we have an idea of how much Apple has agreed to pay its supplier, although the extra cash will not help with Samsung’s disastrous quarter.

Google is going to make it even easier to access the Pixel’s best feature

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If there’s one feature that defines the Pixel 3 (and all of Google’s Pixel phones, for that matter), it has got to be Night Sight — a camera mode that allows for stunning low-light photography.

Google has been raising the bar for smartphone photography for years, but no feature has received as much attention as the free software update that rolled out last fall. Every Pixel smartphone, going all the way back to the original from 2016, has access to Night Sight, but for whatever reason, the mode has been hidden in the “More” tab of the Google Camera app since launch. That might finally change in the coming weeks.

Riders want autonomous cars that drive like humans, not machines

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Autonomous cars may very well be our future, but we’re not there yet. Not only is the technology lacking, but many would-be passengers just don’t feel confident in the ability of a machine to get them around safely, even if a self-driving car is better at avoiding accidents than a human driver.

Figuring out how to make passengers feel comfortable and confident in the ability of an AI-powered car to do its job, and do it well, is a major hurdle for automakers, and researchers from the University of Warwick are doing their best to help. In a new study, researchers from the university attempt to determine what type of driving style makes passengers feel most at home when being driven around by a robot.

This video of a SpaceX rocket fairing returning to Earth is mesmerizing

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It took SpaceX several tries to catch one of its rocket nosecones during an actual mission, but it finally accomplished that feat late last month when one half of the Falcon Heavy’s nosecone safely landed aboard the company’s barge. It was a huge step towards making fairing recovery (and reuse) more routine, and SpaceX is mighty proud.

The company is so proud, in fact, that it’s celebrating the accomplishment a second time with the release of video footage recorded from a camera installed on the fairing itself. If you’re thinking that footage of half of a nosecone tumbling back down to Earth wouldn’t be all that interesting, allow SpaceX to prove you wrong.

NASA takes a nostalgic look back at its very first Mars rover

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Today, NASA’s Curiosity rover spends its days exploring the Martian landscape and eagerly awaiting the arrival of its newest sibling, the Mars 2020 rover, which is slated to arrive in February of 2021. The machines are designed to last for a long, long time, and they’re a far cry from NASA’s first attempt at a Mars rover.

With July 4th here, NASA is using the opportunity to remember Sojourner, the first rover to explore Mars, which arrived on the Red Planet on July 4th, 1997. It was expected to live for just a week on the dry, dusty surface of Mars, but it set the tone for future Mars missions by lasting far longer than it was designed to.
