Hulu finally brings back 4K streaming after killing it last year
There are pros and cons to all of the myriad streaming services currently available, but of all the missing features of the most popular services, none are more baffling than the lack of 4K streaming on Hulu. It is hard to imagine one of Netflix’s most successful rivals failing to have such basic functionality, but in early 2018, Hulu removed the option to stream content in 4K from its service altogether.
With that in mind, you might expect Hulu to celebrate the arrival of the feature once it finally does return, but instead, as AppleInsider spotted on Friday, the reveal appears to have occurred as a tweet from the Hulu Support account in response to a dissatisfied user. Not quite a celebration, but it’ll do.

Someone built a PS5 console with off-the-shelf parts, and you can do it too
Sony and Microsoft have both revealed details about their next-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 and next-gen Xbox, and we know what to expect from them for the most part. Both consoles will deliver similar high-end experiences, including support for 8K gaming and fast loading times. That’s because they’ll sport similar hardware, including CPUs and GPUs from AMD, as well as fast SSDs. And since versions of these speedy processors and solid state drives are already available right now, someone just built his own version of the PS5 (or Xbox Scarlett). And you can do it too.

Facebook agrees to pay FTC $5 billion fine for various privacy violations
Due to a slew of privacy violations, Facebook finally reached a settlement agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that will see the social networking giant pay out a hefty fine of $5 billion. Hardly a surprise, Facebook during its most recent earnings report this past April warned investors it would likely have to pay a fine in the $3 billion to $5 billion.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the FTC voted to approve the settlement by a vote of 3-2. The report adds that the matter has now “been moved to the Justice Department’s civil division” for further review and approval.

Amazon’s next big products may be a high-end Echo and an Alexa home robot
Amazon’s suite of hardware will continue to grow in the coming years, as Bloomberg reports the company is making progress on its voice-activated home robot as well as a previously unannounced high-end Echo smart speaker.
Sources familiar with the product tell Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that Amazon is planning to launch its high-end Echo by 2020. Prototypes of the device are said to be wider than the newest Echo, which allows Amazon to pack additional components within the speaker, including up to four tweeters. Although the HomePod hasn’t been quite as strong of a competitor as Apple hoped it would be, Amazon undoubtedly wants to reclaim any lost market share.

Huawei just confirmed some info about its mobile OS, but it would rather use Android on phones
We’ve been talking about Huawei’s upcoming new Android-based operating system for a few weeks now, ever since Trump’s ban came into effect. We’ve even seen the Chinese company register a Hongmeng trademark in several markets, and that’s what we’ve been calling the OS ever since. It turns out that’s what Huawei calls it too, but the company just said that it wants to keep using the real Android on its smartphones.
