The 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 Moon landing is just days away, and with it comes a whole bunch of retrospective content from the space agency. NASA has pulled out all the stops to ramp up hype for the big day (July 20th, if you’re wondering), but one of the coolest treats thus far has to be the release of a whole bunch of gorgeous panorama images shot by astronauts on the lunar surface.

The new images, like those from the Apollo 17 missions, were stitched together from individual photos snapped by astronauts on the mission. The result is a brand new look at some of the most stunning sights ever captured by NASA.

Sony has a few fascinating ideas to go head-to-head with the Galaxy Fold

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Every player in the mobile business is toying with foldable designs. Some of them have already announced their first commercial products, but the foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei have yet to hit stores. Others have confirmed they’re working on foldable designs of their own, including Lenovo, Oppo, and Xiaomi.

And then some have been much more secretive about such plans, and I’m including Apple, Google, and Microsoft in that list. Sony might have just joined that latter group as well, as the company hasn’t announced any plans to manufacture foldable devices of its own, nor has it teased any concept products as other handset vendors have. But Sony is indeed studying foldable screen technologies, as recent discoveries have shown.

Three ‘Game of Thrones’ nominees submitted themselves for Emmy consideration

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There’s surely a lesson in here somewhere about first believing in yourself if you expect anybody else to. Game of Thrones fans are no doubt aware by now that the series, which took its final bow in May, racked up a record-setting 32 Emmy nominations this week — but there’s also a surprising tidbit you may not be aware of, related to three of the show’s actors who scored Emmy nods as part of that total haul.

Among the pile of Emmy nominations, HBO formally put forward the names of Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), all of whom scored nominations. However, that’s not all of the show’s actors who were nominated.

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Apple Watch is fantastic. If you have one, you undoubtedly love it. There is one key feature of other wrist-worn fitness products that the Apple Watch is missing though, and that’s sleep tracking. Even if the Apple Watch had sleep tracking it wouldn’t be useful, of course, since you need to charge it at night. Thankfully, that’s where the Withings Sleep Tracking Pad comes in. Place it under your mattress and this excellent device tracks your sleep cycles, breathing disturbances, and more. It can also integrate with smart home systems to control music and room temperature, and it even works with Alexa!

Withings Sleep – Sleep Tracking Pad Under The Mattress with Sleep Cycle Analysis, Sleep Score &…: $99.95

Uber glitch charged some customers 100x what they expected to pay

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Uber riders in a number of cities around the world on Wednesday were met with some stress-inducing sticker shock when noticing the price they’d been charged ended up getting massively inflated.

In what appeared to be a case of decimal points not being read by the ride-sharing system correctly, users ended up getting hit with huge fares that led to some black humor about the company’s surge fare pricing. For example, a $20.53 fare for one rider ended up turning into a $2,053 charge.

New report shows that iPhone loyalty is as low as it’s ever been

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

iPhone owners historically haven’t been prone to ditching the brand for an Android, but that may finally be changing. Citing a survey conducted by device trade-in company BankMyCell, CNET reports that iPhone retention has dropped 15.2% since March 2018. BankMyCell says that it collected data from over 38,000 people who traded in their phones from October 2018 to get an accurate gauge of retention through the upgrade cycle.

BankMyCell reveals that 26% of the people it surveyed were trading in their iPhone X and switching to a new brand. Meanwhile, only 7.7% of Galaxy S9 owners traded in their phones for an iPhone, with the remaining 92.3% opting to stick with Android. 18% of those who traded in iPhones switched to Samsung last month.

NASA quietly pushes back its SLS launch estimates to 2021

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA really, really wants to send astronauts to the Moon and eventually other planets, but it currently doesn’t have a rocket capable of such feats. The Space Launch System (SLS) is NASA’s solution, but the development of the rocket has taken far longer — and cost far more — than the agency ever planned.

NASA’s most recent estimates suggested that it was still hopeful that the SLS would see its first test flight sometime in 2020. That unmanned mission would be a big milestone, but now it appears as though the agency has shifted its expectations a bit, with 2021 now looking far more likely.
