Mom of two was misdiagnosed with cancer, endured chemo and surgery before the mistake was found
A mother-of-two from England was misdiagnosed with cancer three years ago, with doctors telling her she had a particularly aggressive form of the disease that would require intense treatment and surgery. It took months before the hospital realized the mistake.
The patient, Sarah Boyle, underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy before doctors realized that the test results had been erroneously reported. As it turns out, Boyle didn’t have cancer at all, but now that the hospital has admitted its mistake, she’s looking for more than a simple apology.

Tesla’s next-gen Supercharger can add 75 miles of range in just 5 minutes
One of the more prescient and impactful decisions Tesla made early on was to roll out a network of Supercharger stations at strategic locations across the United States and in other countries where the company had a significant presence. Indeed, Tesla over the past few years has invested a considerable amount of money into its Supercharger infrastructure and, as a result, it has all but eliminated any lingering concerns regarding Range Anxiety.
In recent years, and thanks to the growing popularity of the Model 3, the number of Teslas on the road has exploded. In turn, some Supercharger stations are often full and can test the patience of drivers looking for a quick charge. Looking to address the issue, Tesla this week provided us with more details regarding the next-gen version of its Supercharger station which can charge vehicles at a much faster clip.

‘Shocking’ study says unfair games feel fair if you’re winning
As someone who reads over various types of scientific research and studies on a daily basis, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of when a study has something interesting to say. When it doesn’t, I won’t bother writing about it, but a recent paper published in Science Advances offers conclusions so obvious I feel like it’s my duty to point out how funny it is.
The study looked at the attitudes of players participating in an unfair card game. The game, which was obviously and transparently rigged to give a previous winner a huge advantage, was seen as mostly fair by the winners and mostly unfair by the losers.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

New iPhone hacking tool can reportedly access a user’s iCloud data
An Israeli security company with a track record of developing some of the most advanced and sophisticated mobile hacking tools we’ve ever seen has upped the ante considerably. According to a report from the Financial Times, the NSO Group is selling an updated version of its famed Pegasus tool that can not only access information stored on a target’s iPhone or Android device, but even access a user’s information stored in the cloud.
As a quick primer, Pegasus was designed to surreptitiously monitor all facets of a user’s device, including text messages, emails, location data, browsing history, phone calls, photos, and more. Additionally, Pegasus is so advanced that it can be installed on a targeted device when a user unwittingly clicks on a SMS link. Suffice it to say, Pegasus is an expensive tool which costs millions of dollars and, as a result, is primarily marketed towards foreign governments and intelligence agencies.

‘Fortnite’ is branching out into original video programming
In a letter to shareholders earlier this year, Netflix acknowledged what might have seemed at the time like a surprising fact: “We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO,” the streaming video giant admitted.
So much of the commentary around Netflix tends to pit it against the obvious rivals — HBO, other streamers, TV in general, and so on. But not only does a game like Fortnite eat away at a growing share of users’ time that might otherwise be spent on something like bingeing Netflix content. It seems that the massively successful battle royale video game is about to encroach for the first time directly onto Netflix’s turf.
