After insisting for months that the company preferred to continue relying on Google’s Android mobile operating system in its handsets, despite a lingering US ban that precludes Google from allowing that to happen, Huawei appears to have finally succumbed to the inevitable.

According to a new report from the Chinese state media outlet Global Times, Huawei is pressing ahead with testing for a handset powered by the company’s own proprietary Hongmeng OS ahead of launching the device as soon as the fourth quarter. It would target low- and medium-end buyers, and be priced at 2,000 yuan (or a little more than $288).

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Apple Watch Series 4 is obviously the best Apple Watch model the company has ever made. It’s lightning fast compared to earlier versions, and it also has a hot new OLED display that takes up even more of the phone’s face. Hurry and you can pick up an Apple Watch Series 4 in Space Gray Aluminum with a Black Sport Loop for just $345 instead of $400, which is a fantastic price!

Huge leak: Galaxy Note 10 captured on video for the first time ever

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With just days to go until Samsung takes the wraps off of its last big flagship smartphone launch of 2019, the higher-end version of the company’s new Galaxy Note 10 just leaked on video for the first time. Before we get to that, though, the answer is no, we haven’t forgotten about the Galaxy Fold that will finally be released in September. So why did we say this is the “last big flagship smartphone launch of 2019”? Because if you’re smart, you’ll forget that the Galaxy Fold ever existed. Even if Samsung managed to fix everything that was wrong with the phone’s display design, the shoddy work was only part of the Galaxy Fold’s problem. It’s got an awful design with massive bezels and a huge notch bitten out of the corner of the main display, it’s too thick, you can still see the crease at the center of the screen when you use it, the aspect ratio is horrible, and it’s insanely overpriced at $2,000. Samsung is absolutely horrible when it comes to first-generation products, as we’ve explained time and time again. If you want a foldable smartphone, do yourself a favor and wait until the Galaxy Fold 3 or Galaxy Fold 4 is released.

With that out of the way, we can turn our attention back to a Samsung smartphone that is worthy of your interest and of your hard-earned money. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ are finally set to be made official later this week, putting an end to the constant barrage of leaks and rumors we’ve seen for the past few months. We already know practically everything there is to know about the new phones, of course, but there was one more big leak that had to happen before the announcement on Wednesday. That’s right, Samsung fans: A Galaxy Note 10 being used in the wild has finally been captured on video.

Insider says Apple will launch an iPhone with Face ID and Touch ID in 2021

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple shocked some fans in 2017 when it launched the first iPhone without a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The iPhone X was also the first iPhone ever to feature 3D face recognition technology, a biometric authentication solution that’s far superior to Touch ID. The competition, meanwhile, wasn’t able to copy Apple’s Face ID, and Android device makers went a different route, adopting screen panels with integrated fingerprint sensors. Google just confirmed that its iPhone 11 rival will have its own Face ID alternative this year, suggesting the Pixel 4 would lack an in-display fingerprint sensor. But Apple is already working on combining the two sensors into a single device. An Apple insider who provided several accurate reports about unreleased Apple hardware says the company will have both Touch ID and Face ID on the iPhone come 2021.

Samsung just confirmed the Galaxy Note 10’s fast charging tech

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

This is it, Galaxy Note fans, this is the week you’ve been waiting for. The Note 10 will be shown to the world on Wednesday, a phone that doesn’t really have any meaningful surprises left. We saw everything leak in the past few months, and we know everything there is to know about the handset. The Note 10 will look a lot better than its predecessor, featuring a design that’s nearly identical to the Galaxy S10.

We’re looking at a slightly updated Infinity-O screen with the hole-punch camera placed centrally rather than on the side, curved edges and thin top and bottom bezels. On the back, there’s a triple-lens camera or better, featuring a vertical alignment. The specs, meanwhile, are almost on par with other 2019 Android flagships, although the phone will get you a new Exynos chip, more storage and RAM, and better battery tech. When it comes to the latter, both the Note 10 and Note 10+ should deliver faster wired and wireless charging speeds, with the emphasis on wired. And Samsung has already confirmed the feature in anticipation of its August 7th press event.

Showtime president ‘unveils’ new service called Showtime Maxi+ Plus

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At a Television Critics Association event in Beverly Hills, Showtime president Gary Levine unveiled the network’s new addition to the growing plethora of subscription streaming services, named Showtime Maxi+ Plus.

It was a joke, of course, as well as a dig against rivals like HBO and Disney and their forthcoming HBO Max and Disney+ streamers that the Showtime boss ripped apart while speaking to attendees gathered in a Beverly Hilton ballroom. For that matter, you can also lump Netflix — to a degree — into the targets of his ire, and in his insistence that amid all of that change and those new players, Showtime represents “an island of stability.”

Everything new coming to Netflix this week, and everything leaving (week of August 4)

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Although the latest month of Netflix releases technically kicked off a few days ago, this feels like the first real week of August, as we are getting a brand new season of GLOW, which is one of the most underrated original series on the entire streaming platform. It’s clearly popular enough to have lasted this long (unlike Tuca and Bertie, RIP), but no matter how many people are watching, more should be. So if you haven’t, catch up already!

Other highlights include the fifth season of iZombie (which kind of went off the rails a couple seasons ago, but was a stellar procedural in its prime), the fifth season of Jane the Virgin, and a Rocko’s Modern Life movie, because ’90s nostalgia will literally never die, no matter how hard anyone tries to kill it.
