NASA just received a major data dump from its mission to ‘Touch the Sun’
We’re rapidly approaching the one-year anniversary of the launch of NASA’s much-hyped mission to “Touch the Sun” with its Parker Solar Probe. The spacecraft is breaking records left and right, but NASA didn’t fire the probe at our nearest star just to impress us. The success of the mission will ultimately depend on the data it sends back.
The nature of sending data through space — and the fact that the Parker Solar Probe has to take nice long trips around the Sun — means that data can’t be streamed back as it’s collected. Instead, the probe has to send back its observations in chunks, and it just wrapped up its first major data dump.

Google Assistant just quietly added a great new text messaging feature
Not every update to Google’s software is a gamechanger, but some relatively small additions often end up becoming fan favorites. One such addition with the potential to excite some users began rolling out over the weekend — Google Assistant can now read messages out loud from major third-party apps. Previously, it could only read SMS messages and would skip every other unread message, but this is no longer the case.
According to Android Police, some of the apps with access to the feature include Slack, WhatsApp, and Telegram, though it appears a wide range of apps are now supported. Plus, in addition to having your messages read out loud from these apps, you can also answer them directly from Google Assistant.

People keep finding frogs in their packaged salads
It sounds like an urban legend — a friend of a friend who knows someone who once took a bite of a live frog that had somehow found its way into their salad bowl — but discovering animals mixed in with pre-packaged salads has actually become something of a trend.
In fact, there have been so many reports of packaged salads containing creatures both alive and dead that researchers decided to investigate. The paper, published in Science of The Total Environment, offers details on the types of animals found in store-bought salads, and where such incidents have been reported most often.

Wild video shows a gang leader attempt a prison escape dressed up as his 19-year-old daughter
People have always been fascinated by prisons, which is why it’s no surprise that Hollywood has been obsessed with the genre for decades now. From shows like Prison Break and Orange Is the New Black to docu-series like Lockup, the masses simply can’t get enough of prison-related content.
Having said that, real-life prison stories can often be far more compelling and outrageous than even the most creative scenarios Hollywood writers can dream up. As a prime example, a gang leader in Brazil recently tried to sneak out of a prison dressed up as his daughter. In something of an elaborate scheme, Clauvino da Silva donned an eerily realistic silicone mask, a long dark wig, a pink shirt designed for a teenager, and tight denim jeans.

SpaceX repairs and bad weather force multiple satellite launch delays
Sending stuff into space isn’t easy. SpaceX has made the process of making satellite deliveries into Earth orbit look incredibly easy, but there are still a million things that can derail an otherwise routine mission, and the delayed launch of the AMOS-17 communications satellite by Spacecom is a great reminder of that.
The mission was originally scheduled to be launched on July 24th, but poor weather forced a delay. The backup launch window on the following day was also marked by bad weather and yet another delay. The skies eventually cleared, but that’s when SpaceX’s Falcon 9 began acting up.
