NASA’s Spitzer just spotted a galaxy perfectly aligned with Earth
NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope is capable of capturing some truly stunning snapshots of distant features in space, and usually, when we see images of vast spiral galaxies we get to see them face-first. A new photo shot by Spitzer of a distant galaxy called NGC 5866 is much different, but no less interesting.
We don’t really get to choose the angle at which we see distant galaxies, so astronomers can only work with what they’re given. In this case, galaxy NGC 5866 is positioned so that we’re seeing only its edge, making it look like a giant glowing splinter in space.

Microsoft contractors listen to your Skype and Cortana activity, but don’t freak out
Microsoft has now joined the ranks of Apple, Amazon, and Google for having contractors who’ve been caught listening to some user Skype and Cortana activity, with Microsoft (and those other tech companies) insisting that some degree of human review is necessary to help improve the services.
That may be cold comfort to users of those services who weren’t necessarily aware that someone on the other end may actually be listening when they give Cortana a command or utilize Skype’s translation service. This is not to imply the possibility of nefarious behavior here on the part of Microsoft, with the company adding that the recordings aren’t user-identifiable. But still.
