Apple was working on an iPhone feature to let users send texts with no cell reception
“I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done,” Steve Jobs once famously said. “Innovation is saying ‘no’ to 1,000 things. You have to pick carefully.”
The import of the quote above remains a core component of Apple’s DNA, and has remained so even in the eight years since Steve Jobs handed over the CEO position to Tim Cook. Indeed, Apple even made a point of noting, during the intro video it ran at WWDC 2013, that its design process includes a “thousand no’s for every yes.”

NFL head trauma linked to decreased testosterone and erectile dysfunction
Studies in recent years have revealed that chronic head trauma often suffered by professional football players can have long-lasting effects, but it’s safe to say that there’s still a lot we don’t know about how frequent concussions can alter a person’s brain.
Mood disorders, depression, and personality changes have already been linked to concussions endured in the NFL, but a new study by Harvard University reveals that hormonal changes and even erectile dysfunction are also likely related to repeated, sports-related head trauma. A new paper explains the Harvard team’s findings in JAMA Neurology.

Disney+ has a secret weapon that isn’t being talked about enough
As streaming video providers like Netflix increasingly replace the cable packages that consumers used to rely on for the majority of TV and movie content they enjoy, variations between the respective streamers become more and more important. To the extent that most of us in the media, for example, often fall back on ranking them on the basis of which provider has which show and what you can watch where.
That’s certainly important, especially with new arrivals coming onto the scene like Apple TV+ and Disney+, both of which are launching in November and are using the makeup of their respective catalogs to reel in subscribers.

iPad Pro in 2020 might adopt advanced camera technology before the iPhone
If you want to see where the iPad is going, all you really have to do is take a look at where the iPhone is today. Ever since Apple released the iPad back in 2010, the popular tablet has routinely adopted features originally introduced on the iPhone a year or two earlier.
Well now, the tables may have turned. A new report from The Elec relays that Apple’s iPad Pro model in 2020 will incorporate time-of-flight camera sensors that will able to more ably determine how far away a given object in a room is. If this sounds familiar, it’s because reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed that the iPhone in 2020 would receive the same feature.

There’s a new supersized version of Anker’s soda can-sized projector and it’s 10% off at launch
Anker’s Nebula Capsule is known far and wide for one main reason: it’s a high-quality portable projector similar to the other ones Anker makes, but it’s stuffed inside a device the size of a soda can. Since its diminutive size is the main selling point here, it might seem odd at first that Anker just launched a new version of the Nebula Capsule that’s much larger. But when you actually look at it, you’ll see that a high-quality projector that’s “much larger” than the Nebula Capsule is still way smaller than comparable models. The Anker Nebula Capsule Max Pint-Sized Wi-Fi Mini Projector was just released on Amazon, touting features like long battery life up to 4 hours, 200 ANSI lumens of brightness, HD resolution, and of course its small stature. The retail price has been set at $470, but the coupon code NEWCAPSU slashes that down to $422.99 to celebrate the release!
Anker Nebula Capsule Max, Pint-Sized Wi-Fi Mini Projector, 200 ANSI Lumen Portable Projector, 8…: $469.99 (use code NEWCAPSU)
Here are the bullet points from the product page:
- HD Viewing: Cutting-edge DLP technology projects a vividly-detailed 720p, 200 ANSI lumen image up to 100 inches big. Ideal for use in low-light environments.
- Instant Clarity: Get an ultra-sharp, rectangular image from almost any angle in under a second with Capsule Max’s autofocus and keystoning technology.
- Extended Playtime: Watch the extended director’s cut in full with Capsule Max’s 4 hours of local video playtime (Note: Battery lasts 3 hours in battery mode when Wi-Fi is in use).
- Android 8.1: Download and stream YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and more straight to Capsule Max without the need to connect additional devices.
- NOTE: Copyrighted content from Hulu, Netflix, and similar services CAN NOT be mirrored or screencast. Download and use the apps directly through Capsule Max to view copyrighted content from these providers. Chromecast is not supported.

NASA astronaut accused of hacking her wife’s bank account from space
Astronauts who travel to the International Space Station have a lot on their plate. They’re put to the test both physically and mentally, and conducting research while floating around in microgravity in a laboratory that’s falling around the Earth is, as you might expect, stressful. Now, after a stint aboard the ISS, one NASA astronaut is dealing with accusations that she actually committed a crime while in space, and the accuser is her own ex-wife.
Anne McClain spent months aboard the International Space Station, arriving in December 2018 and returning to Earth in late June of this year. She was a member of Expeditions 58 and 59, and participated in a pair of spacewalks. As the New York Times reports, her now-ex-wife has filed a complaint that claims science wasn’t her only objective while aboard the ISS.
