NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has proven to be one of the most powerful tools in the agency’s arsenal for over a decade and a half, giving us gorgeous views of distant objects using the telescope’s ultra-sensitive infrared sensors. This week, the telescope celebrated its 16th year in space, and NASA wants to make the most of it.

In a new post by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA highlights 16 of the best images Spitzer captured during its lengthy mission. The images, which include distant galaxies, massive stars, and clusters of space dust, are all pure astronomy eye candy.

The streaming service market is about to get significantly more crowded when Apple and Disney throw their hats into the ring in November, but the competition is already pretty heated as it stands today. Netflix is still the service to beat, but Hulu has done its best to undercut the home of Stranger Things by lowering the price of its ad-supported plan in response to Netflix’s price hikes and offering frequent deals that slash that price even further.

Apple is expected to introduce new Apple Watch models at its annual September unveiling of new iPhones and other products, but Fitbit decided to go ahead and get the jump on the company by teasing a forthcoming Versa 2 smartwatch. It will cost $199.95 and launch on Sept. 15 – with a ton of features that’s already led to the watch being talked up as a serious competitor to Apple’s signature wearable.

Among some of the enhancements Fitbit brought to the Versa 2, it has an AMOLED screen that can stay always-on (unlike the Apple Watch, which lacks an always-on display and forces you to raise your wrist to “wake” the watch). Likewise, Fitbit is promising up to five days of battery life with the Versa 2, compared to a little less than half that which you get from an Apple Watch.

Google announced a few days ago that Android Q will actually be called Android 10, seemingly dropping dessert codenames for good for Android releases. Soon after that, a Google customer rep told people who inquired about the upcoming Pixel 3 Android 10 update that Pixel phones will receive the update on September 3rd. But the three Pixel generations that are eligible for the Android 10 update won’t be the only devices to get it.

In what would be a first, another vendor may get the latest version of Android on the same day as Google. The vendor in question? OnePlus, which launched the OnePlus 7 series of phones earlier this year.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is a cautionary tale of what happens when you place too much trust in (and shell out too much money to) a government contractor. Northrop Grumman has failed to meet NASA’s expectations every step of the way, pushing development back by over a decade and costing literally billions of dollars more than its original contract.

Nevertheless, the telescope itself is going to be pretty awesome, and the things it could teach us about space and our place in it are extremely exciting. Now, only about 12 years late, engineers have finally connected the telescope’s two halves for the first time, and NASA is pretty excited about it.

SpaceX’s Starhopper has had an interesting week. It was initially supposed to take off from the company’s Texas launch facility on Monday evening, performing what is expected to be the last of its test flights before the company begins testing larger versions of Starship. That didn’t happen, and while the details of exactly went wrong are scarce, the company clearly knew how to correct them in short order.

Just one day later, SpaceX was ready to try again, and this time Starhopper’s powerful booster ignited as planned, lifting the spacecraft to an altitude of around 150 meters before it gently returned to solid ground.
