In something of an about-face for Apple, the company will now make it much easier for third-party repair shops to provide the same level of service as Apple and authorized service providers when it comes to iPhone repairs. The new program will encompass support for the most common iPhone issues seen in out-of-warranty devices.

Specifically, Apple for the first time will now offer third-parties the exact same training, tools, and parts as those used by Apple technicians. This is a huge and welcome move, especially in light of the fact that installing a third-party battery on an iPhone can sometimes lead to dire consequences.

Jessi Combs, the current women’s record-holder for fastest speed in a 4-wheeled vehicle, was killed in a jet car crash while attempting to best her own speed record. The crash occurred during a run in the Alvord Desert in Oregon, a dry lake bed favored for its flat terrain. She was 39 years old.

Her name might not immediately ring a bell, but there’s a good chance you’ll recognize Combs thanks to her appearances on a number of television shows. She appeared on Overhaulin’ on the Discovery channel, and replaced Kari Byron as a co-host of Mythbusters for a dozen episodes as well.

If our calculations are correct based on a huge slip-up earlier this month by one of Apple’s wireless carrier partners, Apple will send invitations to the press today for an iPhone event that will take place on September 10th. The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max will then be made available for preorder beginning on September 13th ahead of their release on Friday, September 20th. Nothing is set in stone, of course, but we would be willing to wager quite a bit on all these dates since there’s so much evidence to support them. If there’s one company that likely hopes we’re wrong, however, it’s OnePlus.

Earlier this year, OnePlus released the OnePlus 7 Pro that became the first smartphone in the United States with an all-screen design and a pop-up selfie camera. It’s a sleek and powerful smartphone, and it has reportedly been a top-seller for the China-based smartphone maker. As it has done each year for several years now, OnePlus is rumored to be cooking up a sequel to the phone for a late-summer release. The OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to be an even more powerful version of the 7 Pro with a huge camera upgrade, and it definitely has Android fans buzzing. But if the latest big leak from a reliable source pans out, the timing of OnePlus’ upcoming launch couldn’t possibly be any worse.

Thanks to a slip-up discovered in Apple’s own iOS 13 beta software a few weeks ago, we know that Apple’s next-generation iPhone 11 lineup will be unveiled during a press conference on September 10th. In fact, Apple will almost certainly confirm the news later today by sending invitations to technology reporters and bloggers. During the upcoming iPhone event on the 10th, Apple is expected to confirm all of the big leaks we’ve seen over the past few months. The new iPhone models — which are believed to be called the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max — will feature a design that is quite similar to last year’s iPhone XR and XS phones, as well as 2017’s iPhone X. Just as the company did back in 2016 when the iPhone 7 reused the same design for a third consecutive year, Apple’s new iPhone 11 lineup will offer new cameras and new finishes to compensate for the familiar overall design. The iPhone 11 that replaces Apple’s iPhone XR will sport a new dual-lens rear camera, while the higher-end iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will feature a triple-lens rear camera that adds a super wide-angle lens into the mix. All three models will sport the new square camera bump we’ve seen so much. You know, the one people have been whining about for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

While the new phones will indeed be a minor update in terms of design, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro handsets will be a major update where performance is concerned. They’ll also be packed with some nifty new features and capabilities that have never been available before on an iPhone. We’ll need to wait until September 10th to learn about all the nifty new features Apple has in store, but there’s one feature the iPhone 11 series will lack that I really, really wish Apple would steal from next-generation Android flagship phones.
