Leak says Apple will release a fourth new iPhone model this coming spring

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The iPhone 11 model depicted in the render above is pretty much all anyone can talk about right now, which certainly makes sense considering we’re less than one week away from seeing Apple finally make them official. The iPhone 11 Pro pictured above and its iPhone 11 Pro Max counterpart will reportedly be this year’s successors to the iPhone XS and XS Max, flagship models with killers specs and sky-high prices tags. They’ll feature new triple-lens rear cameras and a tweaked design to go along with a new A13 processor that pushes performance to new heights. Then, for those who don’t want to spend over $1,000 on a new smartphone, the new iPhone 11 will replace Apple’s current-generation iPhone XR lineup. It’ll be a lot like the iPhone 11 Pro models but with slightly less impressive specs, an LCD screen in place of the Pro models’ OLED, a dual-lens rear camera instead of the new triple-lens shooter, and a variety of color options.

The iPhone 11 will indeed be less expensive than Apple’s high-end iPhone 11 Pro models, but it’s still expected to start at $750 like Apple’s current iPhone XR models. And with its 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 11 will also still fall squarely into the “phablet” category, leaving people who want a more manageable iPhone without any options unless they want to buy the 2-year-old iPhone 8 or the 3-year-old iPhone 7. Even then, the phones’ 4.7-inch screen and large bezels still make them fairly sizeable. As it turns out, there might be a fourth new iPhone model that’s more compact coming in the next-generation iPhone product cycle, and the news comes from a source that has accurately leaked Apple’s plans in the past.

Google’s just-released Android 10 update is already causing problems

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google released the Android 10 update on Tuesday, just as several rumors claimed in previous days, which means Pixel device users can download and install the final Android 10 release. Compatible devices include all Pixel generations to date, even the first-gen Pixel, and Pixel XL models which shouldn’t have supported Android 10. The launch, however, isn’t flaw-free, as users have experienced an annoying, but fixable, issue. Several Pixel phones got stuck on the boot screen for minutes to hours, but there are ways to get out of it.

Purported internal document may confirm Apple’s iPhone 11 product names and iOS 13 release plans

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re now less than a week away from Apple’s most important keynote of the year, the one where all the new iPhones and Apple Watches are unveiled. The iPhone 11 series will have three models that will look a lot like their predecessors, at least when it comes to the front side. On the back, we’ve got more cameras than before on all three handsets. Inside, meanwhile, there will be a brand new A-series processor to power them as well as other potential surprises. We already think we know a lot about the iPhone 11, as well as Apple’s launch plans for the handset, and a purportedly leaked document seems to confirm it all. The internal memo also mentions other products arriving this fall, including Apple’s upcoming software releases, the new Watches, and the new iPads.

India’s Moon lander is poised to make history

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With so many eyes on missions to Mars and other interesting destinations in our solar system, it might seem like making it to Earth’s Moon is old hat. Nothing could be further from the truth, and to date, just three countries (the United States, USSR, and China) have managed to land softly on the lunar surface.

Now, after launching its Chandrayaan-2 mission in late July, the Indian Space Research Organization is just days away from becoming the fourth country to touch down on the Moon. In an update on Monday, the mission team revealed that the landing module successfully separated from the orbiter which has been traveling around the Moon since August 20th, paving the way for the lander to complete its most daring maneuver in just a few days.

Bizarre Huawei press release claims the US is behind cyberattacks and employee threats

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Huawei has stepped up its counter-attack against the US-led ban on the company’s products, with a bizarre press release issued Tuesday that levied a number of sensational claims against the US while offering no proof to support them.

In the wake of news that the US Justice Dept. is launching additional investigations into the beleaguered Chinese tech giant over claims of intellectual property theft, Huawei accused the US in the press release of “unscrupulous” behavior. Behaviors that includes, among other things, the US supposedly launching cyberattacks against the company.

You don’t even have Wi-Fi 6 yet, but Wi-Fi 7 is already on the way

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Slow wireless internet is a nightmare, especially if one’s ISP isn’t the problem. Thankfully, Wi-Fi devices are evolving fast, both when it comes to the home equipment and the smart gadgets that connect to said networks. Previously known as 802.11ax, the Wi-Fi 6 standard is just rolling out with the help of new devices such as the Galaxy Note 10. Wi-Fi 6 supports speeds four times higher than Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), as long as your ISP and other equipment can deliver it — Wi-Fi 5 can go up to 1.3Gbps. And now we know precisely how fast Wi-Fi can get in the near future, as the first details about Wi-Fi 7 are already here.

Google knows your Calendar is being spammed, and is working on a fix

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As annoying as email spam can be, Google does a reasonable job of filtering junk away from our inboxes. My spam folder may be overflowing, but at least it isn’t getting in the way of the real email I actually need to see. Unfortunately, when one door closes, scammers are always on the lookout for an open window, and they seem to have found one earlier this year in the form of Google Calendar, which is being used to spam countless users.

As Android Police reported in June, scammers have found a way to exploit one of the Google Calendar app’s default settings, allowing them to add events to your personal calendar without you having to accept the event invite. These “events” are typically just malicious links and misspelled messages about winning money.
