Google Assistant can now take over screens of Android devices when you’re not using them
Google is looking to make its virtual Assistant available on more and more devices, turning them in smart home gadgets that can be used to control home appliances, security systems, or deliver information. The company announced at IFA 2011 on Thursday that Google Assistant will be available on brand new Android smartphones and tablets, but also new speakers, soundbars, and TVs in the near future.
But the most significant change coming to Assistant is the new Ambient Mode feature, which can help you turn supported smartphones and tablets into smart photo frames while they’re charging.

Sonos introduces its first portable speaker, the $399 Sonos Move
The New $399 Move speaker Sonos introduced on Thursday represents a first in at least one major way for the company. It’s battery-powered, promises up to 10 hours of playback, and it’s available for pre-order starting today, ahead of general availability later this month on Sept. 24.
More important, the Move represents Sonos’ first foray into retailing a portable speaker, with a handle designed into the shell that makes it easy to take with you out of the home. According to Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, the Move launches the start of a new era for the company, one that allows the user to take “freedom of choice to the next level.”

Netflix shoots down release date rumors for its ‘Game of Thrones’ rival
Netflix, just like everyone else in the business, has been developing a show that might rival Game of Thrones. It’s called The Witcher, and just like Thrones, it’s based on a series of books that have a huge fan base — moreover, these books inspired a series of popular video games. Netflix has been sharing more details about The Witcher in the past few months, stopping short of revealing the series’ actual launch date.
Until a few days ago, all we knew about The Witcher’s premiere date was that it’s happening before the end of the year. Then, a leak came in saying that season one would launch on November 1st. The source was a Giovanni Eūgene Altamarquéz, a purported Netflix executive producer, who posted details about The Witcher production on Twitter. Netflix now denies everything, and Altamarquéz might not even be associated with the company in any way.

5G iPhone 12 may drive the biggest upgrade cycle we’ve seen in years
With the iPhone now accounting for less than half of Apple’s quarterly revenue, the old narrative that we’ve reached “peak iPhone” has re-surfaced yet again. And if we’re being honest, it’s not such an outlandish view to hold these days. After all, iPhone sales over the past few quarters, at best, have remained steady. Thanks to more reliable devices, incremental upgrades, and the elimination of generous carrier subsidies, the reality is that iPhone owners simply aren’t upgrading to new devices the way they used to.
Looking ahead, that dynamic may be poised to change. Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 11 lineup likely won’t boost iPhone sales in a meaningful way, but the iPhone 5G Apple is expected to launch in 2020 could very well prompt a massive refresh cycle the likes of which we haven’t seen since the iPhone 6 arrived 2014.

Holy crap, a 3-foot python escaped in a Wisconsin high school and no one can find it
Being a high school student is stressful for many reasons, but students at Fond Du Lac High School in Wisconsin now one more thing to worry about as they begin attending classes for the year: a python that broke free from the school’s science lab.
As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, the snake somehow slipped out of its enclosure and is now nowhere to be found. School officials have searched for the snake, named Kai, just about everywhere, and now believe that the reptile may have found its way into the school’s ventilation system, making the search considerably more complicated.

Netflix’s ‘Latest’ tab makes it easier than ever to find new and upcoming shows
For the past few years, we have been diligently informing our readers about all the new releases coming to Netflix on both a weekly and monthly basis, mostly because Netflix itself does a surprisingly terrible job getting this information out itself. But at long last, the streaming service is adding an entire tab dedicated to new and upcoming content so you don’t have to visit our site every time you want to know when something is going to debut.
You should still check our site on occasion, of course, but now you don’t have to check all the time.

The coolest thing about Lenovo’s new tablets is what happens when you’re not using them
Samsung may be trying to come up with Android tablets that can compete with Apple’s high-end iPad Pro, but that’s not what other tablet vendors are doing. Some of them, like Lenovo, are imagining affordable tablet experiences for the masses that might not be available from other budget-friendly Android tablets. That’s the case with the new Yoga Smart Tab and the Smart Tab M8 tablets. The two devices are great tablets to begin with, but the coolest thing about these new models is what happens when you’re not using them.
