Mind-blowing drug trials show it’s possible to reverse biological age

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The relentless march of time will eventually claim all of our lives — or at least that’s the reality we’ve all come to expect. Short of finding the mythical Fountain of Youth, there’s not much any of us can do about getting older, but new drug trials suggest that might eventually change, and the results have shocked even the scientists who were conducting the experiments.

A study recently published in Aging Cell reveals that a specific regiment of growth hormones and medications shows promise in actually reversing a person’s biological age. The research was conducted on a very small scale, with just nine adults participating and no control group, but the findings are nonetheless exciting.

‘Carnival Row’ review: Missed opportunities keep this Amazon original from rivaling ‘Game of Thrones’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Carnival Row, now streaming on Amazon Prime, is an ambitious TV project that can easily be seen as a Game of Thrones replacement candidate. It seems to have all of the ingredients needed to find an audience in the hole left by Game of Thrones, especially considering that Amazon managed to beat several other contestants to market — Netflix’s The Witcher, for example, isn’t launching until late 2019.

In the first part of this review, I told you that Carnival Row doesn’t have to be the next Game of Thrones to succeed. At the time, I had five episodes under my belt out of the eight of the first season. And I had high hopes for the remaining three. But having finished the first season of Carnival Row, I’m now convinced that the whole thing is an expensive miss for Amazon. Yes, the company renewed it for a second season, but it’s not something I’m interested in watching more of after the disappointing first season.

Explosions may be responsible for the bizarre lakes on Saturn’s Titan

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Scientists have learned a lot about Saturn’s moon Titan thanks to NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, which orbited the planet for well over a decade before NASA, and the ESA had to pull the plug in 2017. The mission was a massive success, and it’s still yielding new discoveries today.

Titan, which is the only other world that we know of in our solar system that supports liquid on its surface, is well known for its colossal lakes that are filled with hydrocarbons, but it’s the towering structures on the shores of those lakes that are the subject of a new research effort published in Nature Geoscience.

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix has tens of millions more subscribers, a global user base, one critically acclaimed TV series after another, and more buzzy TV projects than Hulu does. And yet, Netflix’s much smaller rival is actually beating the streaming giant in one key area, new data shows — specifically, on the basis of which service, Netflix or Hulu, offers a larger number of high-quality TV series to binge.

The winner, according to new data compiled by streaming search engine Reelgood, might surprise you.

Apple executive says Touch ID is sticking around amid reports the iPhone 12 might bring it back

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Apple introduces a new technology, it typically signals the end for a piece of legacy technology. The introduction of the Lightning connector, for example, effectively replaced the 30-pin dock connector for good.

With that said, it was only natural to assume that the introduction of Face ID on the iPhone X a few years ago would mark the end of Touch ID. Over the past few weeks, though, we’ve seen reports suggesting that Touch ID may stick around for quite some time.

An all-new chip could give the iPhone 11 features that no other iPhone has

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re just one day away from Apple’s biggest press conference of the year: The iPhone 11 keynote. The phones will look a lot like their predecessors, as Apple is still relying on the same overall design it introduced with the iPhone X two years ago. But all three devices are getting a brand new camera system that dictates a significant change on the back — there will be a large triple- or dual-lens camera array, according to rumors.

Like every iPhone generation, the iPhone 11 handsets will also pack new components, but this year’s models are tipped to feature a part unseen before on an iPhone.

Astronauts come one tiny step closer to building an off-world base

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA will be sending humans back to the lunar surface in the very near future. Following that, plans for a crewed mission to Mars are also in the cards, and eventually, we might even see permanent settlements on one or both of those new worlds. For that to be possible, those brave space travelers are going to need somewhere to stay over the long term, and concrete could play a major role in the construction of off-world homes.

Now, in another first for the International Space Station, astronauts on the orbiting laboratory have tested how common concrete mixtures perform in ultra-low gravity. The experiments, while rather straightforward, are helping to build the knowledge base for future construction projects in space.
