iPhone 11 phones pack a unique chip that Apple barely talked about
Apple on Tuesday unveiled a bunch of new products, including the highly anticipated iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro phones that were featured in numerous reports during the past few months. Many of those iPhone rumors came true, but not all of them. Notably absent from the show was the reverse wireless support feature the iPhone 11 phones were supposed to get. A last-minute leak, however, said Apple wasn’t happy with it and could have scrapped the project. Also, a last-minute leak told us the new phones will feature a brand new type of silicon, and Apple did deliver that one. But the company hardly addressed in on stage during the event. That’s the new U1 chip that was shown on certain roundup slides during the Apple event, and which is explained on Apple’s product pages for the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.

Massive flying reptiles once dominated the skies in North America, new fossils reveal
If you were to travel back in time to an age when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, you’d have plenty of things to fear. Dinosaurs that ruled the land were often massive, and the oceans were dominated by creatures just as fearsome. The skies had their own fair share of impressive beasts, and newly-discovered fossils are helping to hammer that point home in dramatic fashion.
A new study published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology describes an ancient airborne reptile so huge it would rival some small airplanes today. The species, named Cryodrakan boreas, means “Frozen Dragon of the North,” just to give you an idea of the kind of creature we’re talking about.

15 most-watched shows from Netflix, Amazon, and other top streaming services this week
If appearance alone is any guide, Amazon spared no expense on the sumptuous, evocative sets and costumes it prepared to build the fantasy world of its new series Carnival Row — which introduces viewers to magical creatures, a fictional Victorian-era city and a story that, to say the least, has a lot going on. Packed into the narrative is a potent mix of magic, crimes to be solves, politics, the treatment of migrants and immigrants as well as an uneasy balance between fairies and humans, and whether you’re ultimately a fan or not, the show seems to have served Amazon’s purpose, based on at least one metric.
According to fresh data about what shows viewers have been watching the most across the major streaming platforms over the past week, Amazon’s Carnival Row is at the top of the list.

It’s bizarrely easy to see private Instagram posts and share them with anyone you want
Facebook has been doing its best to convince us that it’s concerned about user privacy and security, but it’s not doing a great job. Just a few days ago, we saw the latest proof that Facebook isn’t ready to protect all of your data. And if you wanted more proof that you should be careful about what kind of data you store on Facebook’s servers, even if temporarily, you need to read a new report. It turns out that private Instagram posts and videos can be accessed with relative ease by people who aren’t even following you.

China’s colossal radio telescope just heard a bizarre signal in space
China spent five years and close to $200 million to build its Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, nicknamed FAST. It was a monumental undertaking, but the result is a true marvel of technology, and it’s the largest full radio telescope on Earth. Now, with China set for a final review of the completed project later this month, scientists say they’ve already used the telescope to detect a notoriously strange radio signal beaming through space.
Every once in a while, radio telescopes on Earth detect powerful signals from unknown sources. These Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs for short) are often singular flashes, but a few of them have been observed repeating at seemingly random intervals. One particular signal, known as FRB 121102, is notorious for popping up again and again, and China’s shiny new telescope heard it loud and clear.

Hands-on video highlights Google’s striking new color option for the Pixel 4
We’re most likely still about a month out from the launch of Google’s next flagship smartphone, but leaks have been springing up at a furious pace in recent days. Just last week, we wrote about the first Pixel 4 hands-on video, and in the process of publishing the post, we had to issue an update to include a second video that had begun making the rounds while we were writing. Ever since then, the floodgates haven’t closed.
The latest leak comes from the appropriately-named Gadget Leaks channels on YouTube, which purports to show off the Pixel 4 in a new orange color. This same color option has appeared in leaks and reports before, including a photo posted on Chinese social media site Weibo earlier this week, which you can see here.
