Apple isn’t even trying anymore to keep its unreleased AR headset a secret
In the days leading up to Apple’s iPhone 11 event, we learned that Apple is already testing some sort of augmented reality (AR) device that will work in conjunction with iPhones. Code in an iOS 13 beta as well as new icons suggested that the so-called Apple Glasses might launch sooner than expected, with some people speculating that Apple’s “one more thing” announcement during Tuesday’s iPhone 11 event might be about AR glasses. That didn’t turn out to be the case, and Apple is yet to confirm any plans for an AR headset of its own.
Before the leak, the most bullish estimates said the Apple AR gadget might arrive in 2020 at the earliest, and there’s no indication that Apple is getting ready to unveil it sooner than that. Now, a new discovery in iOS 13 code indicates that Apple might not even be trying that hard to conceal the active development of its first-gen AR headset.

Apple fans will deny it, but the iPhone 11 is missing a feature that’s hugely important
After months upon months of leaks and rumors, Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup is finally official. Were there any surprises left after all those leaks? Shockingly, there were plenty! The new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max indeed feature many of the things we saw in insider reports leading up to Tuesday’s big press conference. But leakers who are typically reliable got so much about the new iPhone lineup wrong. The phones’ new designs were pictured dozens and dozens of times, but no one nailed it. The camera arrays look totally different, the finish on the back is totally different, there’s no new color with a “shimmer” effect like all those Chinese smartphones, and the old mute switch has not been replaced by a tiny toggle like the one on the iPad Pro. As for features, mistakes were made there as well. No one leaked things like Spatial Audio or Slo-Mo Selfies, and the reverse wireless charging feature we heard so much about is nowhere to be found.
Those were all surprises, but the biggest surprise on Tuesday was the new starting price. Apple’s iPhone 11, which is the next-generation version of the iPhone XR, starts at just $699. It might seem crazy to read the word “just” ahead of a $699 price tag on a cell phone, but that’s a $50 decrease from last year’s model and it makes Apple’s new iPhones even more accessible. And speaking of paying a small fortune for a smartphone, there’s one thing from yesterday’s big event that didn’t come as a surprise, but it’s a huge disappointment and it’s something most people should consider if they plan to buy a new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max.

iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 11, iPhone XR, and iPhone 8: Everything you need to know about Apple’s 2019 lineup
Apple just unveiled the three iPhone 11 phones we were all expecting, including the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 11 is the cheaper new iPhone you can buy right now, and it’s even cheaper than we thought — the 64GB version will retail for $699, $50 less than the original iPhone XR price last year. The Pro models, start at $999 or $1,099, depending on size, matching Apple’s pricing structure introduced last year.
But Apple didn’t just unveil three new iPhones, it also discontinued a bunch of handsets, streamlining its iPhone offerings in the process. The iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max are gone from Apple’s website. Apple did keep in place three of its older iPhones, including the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are the only Touch ID iPhones that Apple will still sell. Also sticking for one more year is the iPhone XR, which now costs $599. In total, you have more than a dozen iPhone options waiting in stores and online this holiday season, with prices ranging from $449 to $1,449.
