iPhone 11 is selling so well that Apple is ramping up production
Soon after the iPhone 11 series started selling online a few days ago, several analysts came out with reports saying that preorders were above expectations, with the new iPhone 11 colors being the most popular with consumers. The new colors were, in fact, the first to sell out, both for the iPhone 11 and the Pro versions. Two weeks after the iPhone 11’s in-store launch, a new report says that the iPhone 11 is selling so well that Apple ordered as many as eight million iPhone 11 units from suppliers.

Insane anti-vaxxer threw blood at California lawmakers over vaccination exemptions
Things took a turn for the surreal in the California Senate a couple of weeks back when an unhinged woman threw a cup of “red liquid” at lawmakers. Her disgusting form of protest was reportedly linked to the signing of new regulations to govern child vaccine exemptions, and a half dozen officials were hit with the substance, which has now been confirmed to be blood.
Immediately following the incident, the chamber was evacuated and the blood was cleaned up. The lawmakers who were doused with the blood — which was reportedly from a “feminine hygiene product” — were excused to clean themselves up as well.

Disney wants a Best Picture Oscar for ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and that’s not all
“I know I said no more surprises, but I gotta say, I was really hoping to pull off one last one…”
That is, of course, one of Robert Downey Jr.’s memorable lines as Iron Man from Avengers: Endgame, early on in the superhero blockbuster when it seemed like all hope was lost and he was about to meet his end adrift in space. But it’s also a line that’s applicable, in a way, to the film itself — and, specifically, to its Oscars potential now that Disney has officially launched its “For Your Consideration” campaign to hopefully bring home multiple golden statuettes for Endgame during the next Academy Awards ceremony in February.
And like the film’s heroes who pull out all the stops to win one last battle at the end, Disney is going for broke when it comes to the movie, angling to win in multiple categories for Endgame including ‘Best Picture.”

Microsoft isn’t the only company making dual-screen Windows laptops
Microsoft announced two dual-screen devices during its press event earlier this week: the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo. The bigger device will be powered by Windows 10X, while the smaller one runs Android.
The Neo, however, is the more exciting device, as it will help introduce a brand new version of Windows 10 that is customized for devices featuring two displays. But the Surface Neo will not be the only Windows gadget to feature two displays or a foldable design, Microsoft confirmed. However, none will launch sooner than late 2020.

Trio of space station travelers safely arrive back on Earth
After over 200 days in space, NASA astronaut Nick Hague has returned to Earth aboard a Russian Soyuz crew capsule. Hague and his two fellow passengers — Alexey Ovchinin of Roscosmos and Hazzaa Ali Almansoori of the United Arab Emirates — safely landed in Kazakhstan earlier today.
The space station has been remarkably crowded for the past week or so, with a total of nine passengers living and working in the orbiting laboratory. That’s a significant boost from the typical crew of six, but with the return of Hague, Ovchinin, and Ali Almansoori, the remaining ISS inhabitants can now dive into their work on Expedition 61.

iPhone 11 with Deep Fusion trounces Galaxy Note 10+ in photo shootout
Without question, Night mode on the iPhone 11 is the standout feature on Apple’s next-gen iPhone lineup. And with good reason, Night mode enables users to take surprisingly crisp photos in incredibly low-light environments. It truly feels like magic. While rival handsets like the Pixel 3 have had their own incarnation of Night mode for quite some time, early testing has shown that Apple’s implementation is the best of the bunch.
Night mode, though, isn’t the only notable technology Apple packed into the iPhone 11. During the iPhone unveiling last month, Phil Schiller introduced a new camera feature dubbed Deep Fusion which uses advanced machine learning to deliver stunning photos with impressive detail in medium-light environments. The feature itself is facilitated by the Neural Engine of Apple’s new A13 Bionic processor, with Schiller noting that Deep Fusion is essentially “computational mad science.”

Uh oh: Trump’s attorney general asks Facebook for ‘backdoor’ messaging access
US Attorney General Bill Barr is scheduled to make some remarks at a Justice Department event Friday focused on how tech companies promoting encryption has hampered government access to information.
That’s according to a New York Times preview of the event, which will come in tandem with a chilling demand from Barr: In a letter from President Trump’s AG to Facebook dated October 4, Barr asks the social networking giant to immediately halt its plan to expand end-to-end encryption across the company’s messaging services like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Japan’s asteroid probe just fired a rover at space rock Ryugu
The Hayabusa2 probe arrived at the space rock known as Ryugu in June of last year. It was launched by Japan’s space agency JAXA, and during its many months in orbit around the asteroid it’s accomplished a lot. It’s taken photos, fired projectiles into the rock, and snatched samples that will eventually be studied back on Earth.
Now, as the probe nears the end of its stay at Ryugu, it has begun one of its final objectives by sending a tiny rover to the asteroid. In an update provided by JAXA today, the team announced the successful deployment of the Minerva-II2 rover, which is currently drifting toward the asteroid’s surface.

The 30 most-watched TV shows for September on Netflix, Amazon, and more
Amazon’s sumptuous new high-fantasy series Carnival Row debuted on the retailer’s streaming video arm at the end of August, and in short order it went on to pull off an impressive feat for the service. With Netflix and its buzzy original series like Stranger Things still dominating the streaming landscape, Carnival Row — which introduces users to a Game of Thrones-like world of fairies and magical creatures that exist alongside humans — managed to garner an outsized share of attention, both from critics and via social media.
Amazon has already re-upped the show for a second season, and no wonder: By one metric, it was one of the most-watched shows across all the major streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, and HBO, for the month of September.
