Saturn has 20 new moons, and they all need names

Earth’s singular moon has offered astronomers the opportunity to study the relationship between planets and the natural satellites that orbit them. In many ways, Earth’s moon is the perfect introduction to teach humanity some very basic things about how the universe works.

There’s no civilization living on the ringed gas giant Saturn, of course, but if there were, they’d have a whole lot more to see when gazing skyward thanks to the planet’s huge collection of moons. Recently believed to be just over 60 in number, a new research effort reveals that there are actually 20 additional moons we had never noticed before, bringing the total to 82.

This week’s 15 most-watched shows from Netflix, Amazon and other major streamers

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator, writer, and star of the critically acclaimed Amazon series Fleabag, is continuing to enjoy something of a moment having just come off a stellar showing at the Emmys and hosting Saturday Night Live this past weekend.

At the 2019 Emmys a few weeks ago, Phoebe won for best writing in a comedy series, best actress (for Fleabag) as well as the show picking up an Emmy for outstanding comedy series. And so having said all that, it should probably come as no surprise that some four months after Amazon debuted the second and final season of the show, there’s still enough talk and fandom around Fleabag that the series ended up as one of the most-watched shows across the major streamers over this past week.

Google is forcing Android phone makers to add even more apps no one wants

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Storage is no longer a significant issue on smartphones, with most devices featuring at least 64GB of flash memory, if not double or even quadruple that amount. In other words, nobody really cares about bloatware — those preinstalled apps that ship with new phones, which used to be a major problem on Android flagships.

With that in mind, a new discovery reveals that Google will force manufacturers to preinstall new Google apps (or similar alternatives) on brand new devices or phones that are set to be updated to Android 9 or 10. And despite the abundance of storage, not everybody wants to have all these extra apps on their phones.

Fireballs spotted streaking across the sky in California

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’re a California resident and happened to be hanging around outside on Monday evening you might have spotted something very special in the skies. Dozens of people have reported spotting a bright streak flash in the sky for a few seconds, and the sighting matches up well with fireball sightings in the past.

Seeing a chunk of space rock streaking across the night sky is always exciting, but this particular sighting wasn’t entirely out of the blue. The Draconid meteor shower is peaking this week, dramatically raising the odds of spotting a fireball across much of the United States, Mexico, and parts of Canada.

Some iPhone 11 users are reporting curious display scratches out of nowhere

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There’s no denying that the iPhone has become more durable over time, and with the iPhone 11, Apple set out to take things to the next level. According to Apple, the iPhone 11 has more resilient glass than any other smartphone on the market, something the company achieved via a “dual-ion exchange process,” courtesy of Corning.

All that said, just because the iPhone 11 happens to be less likely to shatter, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s less likely to get scratched up. Indeed, there are a growing number of iPhone 11 users on Apple discussion boards complaining about the device picking up scratches far too easily.

Avengers will get a brand new team member soon, but not until MCU Phase 5

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Disney and Sony surprised fans a few weeks ago by announcing a new Spider-Man deal that brings the beloved hero back to the MCU. On top of that, Marvel confirmed the launch date of Spider-Man 3, placing the film towards the end of MCU Phase 4, which concludes in late 2021. We already know some of the titles that are planned for Phase 5, including Black Panther 2 which has a release date, the new Blade remake, Captain Marvel 2, as well as Fantastic Four and mutants stories. Guardians 3 will likely be part of Phase 5 as well, given that Marvel has to wait for James Gunn to finish his DC superhero project before he can return to the franchise that he helmed for Marvel. And, who knows, an Avengers 5 crossover might also be included in Phase 5 — but that’s just speculation for the time being. However, an insider claims that we’re indeed going to get a new hero come Phase 5, a beloved hero that some fans expected to see in Endgame earlier this year.

Samsung’s ‘fixed’ Galaxy Fold is literally falling apart in the most embarrassing way

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Here’s the bottom line about the foldable smartphone that has generated so much news coverage for Samsung this year, the vast majority of it not good: The Galaxy Fold is a seriously expensive phone that, in spite of Samsung’s fixes and a release delay, is still an incredibly fragile product. It’s no longer the dumpster fire that it was back in April, in the days leading up to the first planned release until tech writers and reviewers started seeing their early units manifest a slew of problems. But it’s still certainly too problematic at the nearly $2,000 price point for us to recommend.

We showed you over the weekend, for example, a video of the Fold not lasting through the 200,000 folds and unfolds which Samsung promised it can take. Meanwhile, a new design problem has also emerged, and for my money, this is probably one of the most embarrassing yet. Maybe even the most embarrassing.
