Scarlett Johansson says ‘Black Widow’ will bring us closure

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Going into Avengers: Endgame, we knew some of our favorite superheroes would end up dying for good while trying to undo the snap, and Marvel delivered. Tony Stark was always a top contender to sacrifice himself to save everyone else, but Natasha’s death was an unexpected surprise — albeit a brilliant one, given how it all went down. Fans were still quick to point out that Black Widow didn’t get the same recognition as Iron Man, and they complained that the writers and directors didn’t consider giving Nat a funeral like they did with Stark. Black Widow, the first MCU Phase 4 movie, might fix some of that and bring everyone some closure. At least that’s what the movie’s star Scarlett Johansson says.

Why Google’s sudden focus on privacy might just be a marketing ploy

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After countless privacy breaches that prompted increased scrutiny from authorities, and after Apple turned privacy into major selling points of its iPhones and Macs, Google and Facebook quickly pivoted to supporting stronger privacy even though it goes against their whole business model — collecting user data in return for free services, and turning that into piles of cash courtesy of ads. Both companies have a long road ahead to prove they really mean it when they say they want to protect user privacy, no matter how exciting it may be to hear them come up with new pro-privacy features for their products. Google is the latest example, but some of its newest privacy features don’t seem to be anything more than a marketing ploy.

An upcoming Samsung phone has the design breakthrough we’ve been waiting for, but no one knows which one

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung made a significant change in the way it introduces new innovations to mobile devices. Instead of debuting on pricey flagship phones, features like the hole-punch design and multi-lens cameras were launched with the help of mid-range handsets. Those technologies then made their way into the S10 and Note 10 flagships once they were proven. It stands to reason that Samsung will continue to roll out new technology using more affordable devices before bringing it to flagships. Of course, that’s unless we’re talking about foldable phones, which feature two tech innovations that are too expensive cheaper devices — that’s the hinge mechanism and foldable display. With that in mind, new reports claim Samsung is ready to introduce the revolutionary design breakthrough we’ve been waiting for, but on one can seem to agree on which phone will be the first to utilize it.

I’ve been using a J.A. Henckels knife set for many years now and if I’m being totally honest, they weren’t worth the money. They’re fine knives, don’t get me wrong, but they were definitely overpriced because any decent knife set works just as well. My knives are old enough now that I can’t really go on resharpening them all the time, so I’ve been looking for a good alternative to replace them with that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Thankfully, Amazon’s big one-day blowout sale just made the decision for me. Google Maps directions are so bad in this Italian town, the app has been ‘banned’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I had some minor frustrations with Google Maps during a recent stay in Paris, which I wrote about here and which caused me to switch to relying on Apple Maps — at least until I got back home. In one Italian town, meanwhile, those headaches I wrote about are apparently on a whole other level.

The Sardinian village of Baunei has actually had to rescue so many tourists and travelers who’ve gotten lost and stuck over the past year that the town has actually begun actively begging people not to use Google Maps at all. The mayor of the village, Salvatore Corrias, has given a number of interviews to the press in recent days trying to steer people away from using the app. And the town has even started putting up road signs that instruct drivers: “Do not follow the directions of Google Maps.”
