The first all-female spacewalk will finally happen on Friday

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You might remember back in March that NASA was planning the first all-female spacewalk in history. The space agency didn’t specifically intend for it to be women only, but it just so happened that astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch were slotted to operate as a team, and it was the first time things had worked out that way.

Unfortunately, the spacewalk had to be tweaked at the last minute due to an issue with spacesuit sizing. McClain’s spacesuit size preference changed after her first trip outside the ISS and there weren’t two medium-sized suit torsos available. It was a bummer, and it meant that the first all-female spacewalk would have to wait for another day. Tomorrow is that day.

Google explains why it didn’t release a 5G version of the Pixel 4

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In the build-up to Google’s Pixel 4 unveiling earlier this week, there were a few rumors circulating claiming that we might see Google introduce a 5G version of its next-gen smartphone. The rumor itself was particularly plausible, especially in light of the fact that we’ve already seen 5G devices from the likes of Samsung and LG hit the market this year.

But as it turned out, Google’s event came and went without a mention of a 5G version of its Pixel 4 smartphone. Truth be told, it’s not that big of a deal given that the rollout of 5G is still in its infancy, which is to say that if you pay a premium for a 5G device, there’s a good chance you’re paying extra for a feature you can’t fully take advantage of just yet.

iOS 13 has already been installed on more than 50% of all iPhones

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Even with all the chaos surrounding the launch of iOS 13 – which included a string of rushed beta releases, a whole host of bugs and issues, and an expedited rollout of iOS 13.1 – Apple says 50% of its iPhones are already running on iOS 13. This announcement comes less than one month after Apple seeded the first version of the software update to the public, which goes to show just how accustomed Apple fans are to staying up to date.

Breaking down the adoption numbers further, Apple reveals that while 50% of all iPhones have been updated to iOS 13, the percentage of recent devices (those introduced within the last four years) to make the jump is even higher at 55%. But the iPad lags behind slightly, as only 33% of iPad owners have moved on to iPadOS.

iPhone 11 Pro just destroyed Android in comprehensive performance tests

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There’s something of a narrative that Apple’s innovation in the smartphone space came to a grinding halt years ago. And while there is some truth to the fact that smartphone innovation on the whole has slowed in recent years, that’s not to say that iPhone releases have been lacking in the new feature department. If anything, we’ve seemingly become so accustomed to new phones with better hardware and better software that we’ve arguably become immune to some of the more impressive advancements offered up by next-gen devices.

Take the iPhone 11 Pro, for example. From the outside looking in, it may not seem all that different from last year’s iPhone or the iPhone X before that. In reality, though, the iPhone 11 Pro has a lot of innovation under the hood that is not readily apparent at first glance. Aside from the introduction of Night mode, which is an overlooked innovation in its own right, the hardware advancements offered up by the iPhone 11 Pro are beyond impressive.

Netflix says its $3 mobile-only plan might expand to more markets

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After testing a mobile-only plan in India on a small scale, Netflix went ahead and made it available to everyone in the country a few months ago. For less than $3 a month, Netflix users in India can access the streaming service on one mobile device at a time, whether it’s a smartphone or tablet. It turns out the plan is such a success for the company that Netflix is considering opening it up to customers in other markets. Either that, or the company is already feeling the pressure of incoming streaming services that are a lot cheaper than its own plans. Disney+ has been running a few amazing deals that cut the monthly price down to less than $5, while Apple TV+ comes free for a year to millions of iPhone, Mac, and iPad buyers.

Something is mutilating cattle in Oregon, and yes, aliens are suspected

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Something very strange is happening on the massive Silvies Valley Ranch in eastern Oregon. The ranch, which covers 140,000 acres and includes a golf course, cabin rentals, and a restaurant, recently lost five bulls under eerie circumstances, and ranch staff have absolutely no idea what is going on.

The bulls began dying earlier this summer, with ranch hands finding their lifeless bodies on the range, mutilated and drained of blood. Whatever is killing the cattle is capable of dispatching an animal that can weigh upwards of 2,000 pounds, then spending a considerable amount of time at the dead body before disappearing without a trace.
