iPhone 11 Pro Max and Pixel 4 XL battle it out in camera comparison video

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Both the iPhone 11 and the Pixel 4 are official, available to order, and feature brand new camera systems. If camera performance is your main concern when it comes to your smartphone purchases, then you’re likely looking at a list of 2019 flagship phones that includes the iPhone 11 Pro and the Pixel 4. That’s because both Apple and Google have delivered significant innovations in recent years, challenging rivals to come up with better camera technology — this year’s Samsung and Huawei flagships should make that list as well.

But while reviews said the Pixel 3 had a slight edge over the iPhone XS last year, the same can’t be said about the Pixel 4 when compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple caught up with Google’s Night Sight mode, while Google went for more rear camera lenses on the Pixel 4. So which of the two has the better camera?

Apple’s next-gen Mac Pro might be released in the very near future

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple at WWDC this year finally took the wraps off of its completely re-designed Mac Pro. Years in the making, Apple’s next-gen Mac Pro was designed from the ground up to address many of the complaints people had with the trash can Mac Pro it introduced back in 2013. Interestingly, even Apple executives, with the benefit of hindsight, have conceded that the 2013 design was misguided.

“I think we designed ourselves into a bit of a thermal corner,” Apple’s Craig Federighi said in 2017. “Being able to put larger single GPUs required a different system architecture and more thermal capacity than that system was designed to accommodate.”

Samsung may make the Galaxy Fold 2 look even weirder with a vertical notch

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Samsung gets around to releasing the next-generation of its Galaxy Fold, as it’s expected to do possibly in April 2020, the foldable may end up looking even weirder than it already does.

It seems that Samsung is toying with the idea of giving the notch that houses the camera and other sensors a vertical placement on one side of the front display, a new aesthetic touch for a handset that looks to be otherwise pretty similar in appearance to the first generation of the Fold.

Apple’s latest software updates are buggy, and this veteran Apple engineer explains why

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

To a certain extent, Apple is in something of a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” situation when it comes to new software releases. If Apple rolls out an update that focuses on improving overall performance and system reliability — as was the case with iOS 12 — the company is criticized for not introducing innovative new features. On the flip side, if Apple rolls out a software update teeming with new features, there are inevitably a slew of bugs Apple needs to work through. We saw this play out recently when Apple released a beta of iOS 13.1 before iOS 13 had even shipped.

The situation is just as bad on the Mac side of the equation. Even though the recently released macOS Catalina update isn’t chock full of new features, many users have experienced any number of frustrating usability issues since updating their system. Compounding matters is the fact that many users are running into glitches during the installation process itself. While it stands to reason that Apple will inevitably get around to shoring things up, one can’t help but wonder why Apple these days seems to have a hard time rolling out new iOS and macOS updates that work seamlessly right from the start.

Astronauts on the International Space Station will control a robot back on Earth

When you’re a kid, few toys are as cool as radio-controlled vehicles. There’s just something awesome about piloting a tiny vehicle from afar, and even as an adult, it can quickly put a smile on your face. Luca Parmitano, a European Space Agency astronaut, will soon have the privilege of remotely controlling a particularly high-tech vehicle, and he’s going to do it from space.

Parmitano, who is currently serving as commander of Expedition 61 aboard the International Space Station, will be participating in an experiment called ANALOG-1, which will task him with controlling robotic rover back on Earth. Yeah, it’s just as cool as it sounds.

More evidence points to the imminent arrival of a much cheaper iPhone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Starting at just $449, the iPhone 8 is the cheapest iPhone you can buy from Apple right now. It’s also the only phone that Apple sells with Touch ID still on board. However, that iPhone features two-year-old hardware, which isn’t ideal for everyone. You could go for the more expensive iPhone XR ($599) or iPhone 11 ($699) instead, as long as you don’t mind switching to Face ID, getting used to a bigger phone size, and paying slightly more. Or you could just wait, as Apple’s next affordable iPhone seems to be on the way.

Disney CEO fires back at Coppola and Scorsese’s anti-Marvel comments

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Well, I have to confess. I didn’t think the news cycle emanating from legendary director Martin Scorsese’s fuddy-duddy criticism that Marvel movies aren’t ‘cinema’ would last as long as it has, partly because it’s of the “Sheesh, kids today” variety and so clearly a bit elitist. But then everybody started piling on. Actors like Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr., along with Marvel directors James Gunn and Joss Whedon and others all rushed to the defense of the superhero movie genre in general and to Marvel specifically. But then venerable Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola saw Scorsese’s comments and decided to up the ante, blasting Marvel films as “despicable.”

Not to be outdone, Disney CEO Bob Iger — the executive whose media company owns Marvel — has now come out swinging himself, rushing to the defense of his company’s Marvel division and lamenting that the two director’s anti-Marvel comments are “disrespectful” (We’ll have to wait and see if this finally puts the issue to bed or not).
