You’ll still get to enjoy it for a month, but it won’t auto-renew after that… and you just got yourself a brand new Echo Dot for only $8.98!

Mid-range Samsung phones just got a killer feature you won’t even find in a $1,500 iPhone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple’s iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max have a problem. They’re fantastic new smartphones that are by far the most powerful and most capable handsets Apple has ever made, but they’re being held back. The problem is actually all too familiar to Apple fans, who will recall something similar just 2 short years ago. Apple’s iOS 11 software was a disaster from the get-go, riddled with aggravating bugs and flaws. Among them, the most annoying to power users was the terrible RAM management issue that prevented iPhones from keeping app statuses saved in the background. As a result, the entire user experience was slowed down because an app would have to load fresh every single time it opened, even if it was just a minute or two after being minimized. Sadly, the same exact thing is now happening in iOS 13, which is something of a mystery considering the fact that last year’s iOS 12 release was so focused on bug fixes and optimizations. iOS 12 sped phones up, increased battery life, and thankfully it also fixed the annoying RAM optimization issue. What happened between then and now is anyone’s guess.

There’s no question whatsoever that Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are the most powerful smartphones on the planet. In fact, they obliterate Android flagships and nothing out there from Android vendors even come close… on paper. In the real world, however, it’s a different story. In fact, we’ve seen several different Android phones beat Apple’s newest flagship iPhones in real-world speed tests. There’s no telling when Apple will finally get around to fixing this troublesome issue in iOS 13. In the meantime, Samsung just made an announcement that its mid-range phones are about to get a major upgrade that might have helped Apple avoid the new RAM management issue altogether.

Samsung’s fix for its embarrassing Galaxy S10 security problem is ready to roll out

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy S10 and Note 10 phones feature a more sophisticated in-display fingerprint sensor than other Android phones, as it uses ultrasounds rather than optics to map fingerprints during the authentication process. However, some users discovered recently that anyone can unlock the phone as long as the display is covered by a third-party screen protector that hasn’t been certified by Samsung. The company acknowledged the issue and promised that a software update will deliver a permanent fix. That was only a few days ago, and it looks like Samsung is ready to deploy the fix.

The best deal in wireless is even better with these $15 a month smartphone plans

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

This is a sponsored article and all content and opinions expressed within are of the author.

Signing a contract for a new phone plan can be a gigantic hassle. There’s always hidden charges lurking on the next page and the plan could change midway through its run if you go over a certain usage limit. And for those of us who aren’t glued to our phones constantly, why should we pay for data we aren’t using? Being locked into a contract means you’re stuck for over a year with no way out.

Now, you don’t have to worry about any of that noise, thanks to Mint Mobile. Mint Mobile offers simple mobile plans starting as low as $15/mo, all on the nation’s most advanced LTE network. You pay for what you need and only that. No more getting suckered into buying unlimited 4G data plans and then not being able to carry over unused data from month to month. Mint offers plans with 3GB, 8GB, or 12GB of 4G LTE data, so you can choose the amount that’s right for you. The unlimited talk and text helps to stay in touch with, if you’re like me, your mom who calls and texts you a lot.

How do they offer plans for $15/mo? They switched up the wireless industry model and went online only — surprise, those retail stores and overhead are expensive. They also introduced the concept of buying in bulk to your phone plan, where the more months you buy upfront, the lower your monthly rate. You can get a taste of their best monthly rate on the introductory 3-month plan. The best part is, if you’re loving your plan and the great coverage that’s provided, you can choose a longer plan and lock in their lowest price. For $15/mo, $180 upfront, you can get their 3GB/mo plan for 12 months and forget about your phone bill until next year. The 8GB/mo plan runs you $20/mo and the 12GB/mo plan comes in at $25/mo. Mint Mobile also gives you a free SIM card, unlike some companies who charge for new cards, and it has three different sizes (standard, micro, and nano) to fit whichever device you have. You also get the ability to turn your device into a mobile hotspot, all on the nation’s fastest network.

To me, it’s a very freeing feeling to know you’re not bogged down by a contract you can’t get out of. Switching to Mint means you only have to worry about shopping online for your wireless plan. It’s easy to do from anywhere, simply by heading to their website. One of the best things about Mint is that you can try it at almost no cost to you. Checking out a three-month plan gives you the freedom to give it a go and test it out for yourself. Their three-month plan costs about as much as another carrier’s plan would be for just a month. And they offer a seven-day, money-back guarantee, so there’s no harm in trying it out! You’re saving in the long run, no matter what!

But I know what you’re thinking: moving to a different carrier often times means having to change your phone number. Well, if your phone is compatible, Mint Mobile not only allows you to keep your phone number, they let you keep your phone! That’s right, you can keep the phone you love and the number that all your friends have (and your mom who might text or call too much.) If you want a new phone number, that’s fine too and it won’t cost you extra!

If you’re at all worried about switching up your carrier or have questions about what might be the best for you, Mint’s website is chock full of amazing information and they don’t hide behind any big fancy jargon. It’s simple to find the answers on the website, as I’ve enjoyed their helpful chat function that allows you to ask whatever you want. Plus, you can always check the FAQ section to find what you need. If you prefer speaking on the phone, you can easily call a sales rep or customer support who will answer any question you have.

So here’s how it works: First, you need to visit Mintmobile.com to see if their coverage is right for your area. Next, you’ll need to see if your device is compatible. Then, choose your plan. Once you sign up, they’ll send you a sim card kit and all you need to do is punch it off the kit, insert it into the phone, and activate it. Then you’re on your way to saving a ton of money on your wireless bill.

Here’s an overview of Mint Mobile’s $15/mo for 3 months offer:

  • 7-Day Money Back Guarantee— so you can get a taste of the Mint life risk-free!
  • 3 months of wireless service for $15/month (regular price $25/month)
  • 3GB of 4G LTE data per month; data speeds reduce after monthly allowance but data is unlimited
  • Unlimited talk, text and data delivered on the nation’s fastest, most advanced 4G LTE network
  • Includes FREE international calls to Mexico and Canada
  • BYOP program that allows you to bring your own unlocked GSM phone
  • Mobile HotSpot: turn your device into a WiFi hotspot
  • WiFi Talk & Text: Send calls and texts without full network coverage when you’re on WiFi!

Start saving by switching to Mint Mobile and get unlimited talk and text for as low as $15/mo.

Five reluctant hitmen from China ended up in jail after bungling an assassination

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

This almost sounds like the plot of a wacky Netflix original series. Six men, sitting in jail, because one of them hired a hitman to take out his business rival for the US equivalent of $282,000. That hitman basically said “meh,” and then outsourced the job to another hitman. That second hitman likewise passed the buck to another hitman, who did the same thing to another hitman, who in turn outsourced the job yet again to another hitman.

Passed down hot potato-style to the final hitman, he at least sets up a meeting with the businessman’s rival in a cafe. Does he kill him, or even threaten to? No. In fact, the hitman tells the guy he doesn’t even want to kill him. For just $100,000, though, the hitman makes the man an offer: Why don’t we just fake your death instead?

Oops: Reporter fired after jumping on cars at an auto show for laughs

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A reporter for a California TV station has been fired after his antics at a local car show crossed some pretty obvious lines. The reporter, Angel Cardenas, was reporting from the Sacramento International Auto Show for CBS 13’s Good Day Sacramento when he decided to do some incredibly dumb things in the name of entertainment.

Cardenas had apparently been allowed into the show grounds well ahead of its opening and, with “no one to talk to” he was forced to come up with something to occupy his time. So, acting like “a kid in a candy store” by his own admission, the reporter started playing around with the pristine antiques.

College student who scammed Apple out of nearly $1 million sentenced to three years in prison

A Chinese student named Quan Jiang, who was enrolled as a college student in Oregon, was recently sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a lucrative and elaborate scheme involving counterfeit iPhones.

The scheme itself was rather simple, and to be honest, it’s somewhat impressive that it even worked on the scale it did. Over the course of a few years, Jiang and another friend of his would routinely receive shipments of counterfeit iPhones from China. Following that, they would send the devices to Apple and claim that they weren’t able to power on, all in the hopes of receiving bona fide replacement devices.
