Samsung marketing stunt causes satellite to crash into woman’s yard
Imagine waking up one morning to a commotion outside, looking out at your front yard, and seeing what appears to be a satellite — still making noises — that has crashed and landed right in front of your home.
That was the situation that greeted Nancy Welke, in a rural Michigan town, over the weekend when a satellite connected to Samsung’s recently-launched “SpaceSelfie” marketing campaign fell from space. The debris, which Samsung described as a low-altitude “balloon,” but which likely resembles most people’s idea of a small satellite, included solar panels that look like wings and a box wrapped in aluminum foil.

AirPods Pro with new colors and new features to launch this year
A new report from the Economic Daily News has provided us with some new and interesting details regarding Apple’s next-gen AirPods. Though we’re not even a year removed from Apple rolling out its second-gen AirPods, we’ve already seen a number of credible sources pointing towards Apple introducing a Pro version of its popular wireless earbuds sometime in the next few weeks.
Per the report, Apple’s AirPods Pro will come in an assortment of new colors. Though the white AirPods are certainly iconic — as an extension of the white earbuds popularized by the original iPod — the AirPods Pro will reportedly be available in as many as eight colors, including white, black, and a Midnight Green color similar to the recently released iPhone 11 Pro.

It shouldn’t be possible to get an Echo Dot for $9… but it is if you hurry
Like several other popular sites out there, we first thought the deal was a mistake when we came across it. I mean, can you blame us? The idea that you can get a brand new 3rd-Generation Echo Dot for just $8.98 is absolutely nuts! Well, guess what: it’s not a mistake and if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can still get in on the action!

If for some reason you don’t want to though, you can just go to this page and cancel AMU right after you place your order. You’ll still get to stream all the music you want for a month, but then your subscription won’t auto-renew and you’ll get to keep your dirt cheap Echo Dot!

Windows 10 version that will run on dual-screen Surface devices might come to regular laptops too
Microsoft unveiled several new computers a few weeks ago, including updates to its Surface Pro and Laptop lines, as well as its first-ever Surface devices powered by ARM and AMD chips. The most interesting devices coming out of Microsoft’s hardware event were the dual-screen Windows tablet (Surface Neo) and Android smartphone (Surface Duo) that were only announced so developers can help Microsoft create compelling dual-screen software experiences for buyers — both the Neo and Duo will launch only about a year from now. A new leak, however, reveals that the Windows 10X version of Windows 10 that Microsoft created for dual-screen gadgets might have a future on more traditional laptops, which only feature one main screen.

Photo battle between an iPhone 11 Pro and a $7,500 DSLR might surprise you
It’s no secret that Apple over the past few years has devoted an ever-increasing amount of R&D towards improving the camera technologies it packs into the iPhone. And speaking to the scale of Apple’s work and ambition, the company a few years ago revealed that it has well over 800 engineers who are solely tasked with working on and improving the iPhone camera.
While not every iPhone upgrade results in a huge jump in camera performance, Apple’s iPhone 11 lineup is arguably the biggest leap forward in camera quality we’ve seen in years. Night mode alone is essentially magic and, impressively enough, clearly delivers crisper and higher quality photos in low-light environments than what you’ll find from the Pixel 4 and any Samsung flagship you can think of.

This timelapse photo from the space station is breathtaking
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station get to see a lot of cool things. The orbiting laboratory completes a full lap of Earth in a mere 92 minutes, so its residents are constantly seeing sunrises, sunsets, and all the stars they could possibly want. It also makes the space station the perfect place to snap a timelapse photo, and NASA’s Christina Koch did just that.
Normally, a timelapse image showing this much star activity would take an entire night to capture, but because of the speed at which the ISS orbits Earth, it took just 11 minutes. It’s the result of some 400 separate photos that were captured as the space station passed over a large swath of Africa.

Cable companies have found another ridiculous excuse to raise your rates
Cable companies have just found a new excuse to raise rates, thanks to an order from the Federal Communications Commission on Friday that uses what might sound like a novel justification: The competition from streaming services.
Before we get to the details of the FCC decision, some history is in order first. The Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992 allows local regulators to control cable prices in markets with only one cable provider — which is supposed to cap the company from taking advantage of its monopoly position to raise prices sky-high. The law allows, however, for that cable company to petition for the removal of that regulation when an additional cable player arrives on the scene.
