Mars just barfed up InSight’s probe and NASA doesn’t know why
Hey, so, funny story: Remember a couple of weeks back when NASA declared that a plan to get its Mars InSight probe to dig deeper into the planet’s surface had worked? It was exciting, since it meant the probe might finally be able to get deep enough to fulfill its destiny and return important data from the Red Planet. Well, that all changed, and the InSight team is essentially back at square one.
Shortly after the InSight lander touched down on Mars the self-hammering “mole” probe that was supposed to bury itself up to 16 feet into the planet began to falter. It just couldn’t get a grip on the loose Martian soil, and NASA had to invent a new way to make it work.

Google considers buying Fitbit as time runs out for the wearable company
Google started offering hints earlier this year that it wanted to finally make a serious push into wearables of its own, thanks to clues like the company’s job listing spotted back in February that sought someone for the position of wearables vice president.
And when you couple that with Google’s $40 million acquisition of Fossil’s technology, it makes the overture from Google’s parent company Alphabet to buy wearable maker Fitbit, which was reported on Monday, look like Google is getting much closer to finally developing branded wearables of its own.

Woman realizes painting hanging in her kitchen is worth $26 million
Most of us would be happy just to find a $5 bill hiding out on our kitchen countertop, but an elderly French woman recently discovered something far more valuable in her kitchen. It was a painting that had been hanging on her wall for years, and it wasn’t until an auctioneer spotted it that she even considered selling it.
That twist of fate resulted in a life-changing sale that topped $26 million this past weekend. The painting, which is being called a “masterpiece,” was created by Italian painter Cimabue and is thought to be around 700 years old.

iPhone 12 tipped to adopt one of the best iPad Pro features
It’s usually the iPad that inherits features from the iPhone, but there’s one feature that Apple fans have been hoping for quite some time now would trickle down to the iPhone. It didn’t happen with the iPhone 11, but things might change as soon as next year when the iPhone 12 launches.
Introduced with the second-gen iPad Pro series, Apple’s ProMotion display tech is coming to the 2020 iPhones, Digitimes reports (via 9to5Mac).

Apple isn’t giving up on the smart home, might release its own hardware
This Friday, Apple will take a dramatic first step into a new business category it’s never been a part of before now — content creation and licensing, in the form of the movies and original TV series that will comprise the library of the company’s all-new Apple TV+ streaming service.
Beyond that, meanwhile, Apple is also exploring how it can ramp up its presence in other categories far afield from the iPhone lineup that’s historically been the core of the business. In fact, a new report claims the company wants to speed up hiring for a new smart home software and devices team.
