Pittsburgh sinkhole slurps up delicious city bus

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You never know what life is going to throw at you, and that’s especially true on Mondays. Pittsburgh residents taking advantage of convenient public transportation were reminded of that fact this week when the bus they were riding on was swallowed up by a city street.

The incident, which occurred in the city’s downtown area, saw a city bus fall rear-first into a cavernous void that materialized in the middle of the road. It happened during the morning rush hour, of course, because that’s exactly what everyone needed to start their week off on the right foot.

Sony will shut down live TV service PlayStation Vue in January 2020

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

New streaming services have been springing up consistently for years now, but in January, one is actually being shut down. On Tuesday, Sony announced that its live TV service, PlayStation Vue, will no longer be accessible starting on January 30th, 2020. If this is how you watch live TV, you’ll need to find a new service.

John Kodera, Deputy President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, blames “the highly competitive Pay TV industry” for the death of PlayStation Vue, as he claims it didn’t adapt as quickly as the company hoped it would. As a result, Sony has decided to focus on its gaming business instead, which has been a major driver over the last several years, and will likely continue to be one with the launch of the PlayStation 5 next holiday season.

Leak says Samsung’s next foldable phone might not look anything like the Galaxy Fold

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The first Samsung foldable phone is available in stores in select markets, and while it may represent a valiant effort from the company — hey, someone had to make one of these for us to realize the technology just isn’t there yet — it’s still a phone you should avoid. No matter how careful you might be with it, the Galaxy Fold is just too fragile, and you may end up ruining that foldable display without too much effort.

Samsung isn’t going to give up on making foldable phones just because of the initial Fold failures, though, and the Korean vendor is already expected to launch a Galaxy Fold 2 at some point next year. A brand new leak indicates the device might also deliver a completely different design.

ISS astronauts played baseball in space to celebrate the World Series

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Astronauts who travel to the International Space Station have many responsibilities. They spend their days conducting various experiments, coordinating research efforts with scientists back on Earth, and performing maintenance on the space station itself. It’s a big job, but in their downtime, they like to enjoy the same things we do here on Earth, including America’s pastime.

In a fun little crossover between NASA, Major League Baseball, and Fox Sports, astronauts aboard the ISS took some time out of their busy schedules to play a bit of baseball. Of course, with gravity lacking and considering the cramped confines of the space station, the game had to be modified a bit, but it’s still recognizable.

Samsung reveals its first premium laptops with QLED displays

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Most of the news we’ve covered out of Samsung for the past several weeks has been focused on its smartphone business, but the company has just unveiled a pair of new products which aren’t phones and are set to be released next year that should make creators and anyone interested in productivity very happy.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion are new premium laptops that feature the first QLED displays Samsung has used on a laptop, with screens that not only offer brighter, more vivid, true-to-life viewing, but a special Outdoor Mode. That mode is enabled by a maximum 600-nit display capability, so you should be able to see everything on the screen and continue working just fine even in bright sunlight.

Lyft Pink membership offers 15% off all rides for $20 per month

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Lyft’s first effort at a subscription plan was compelling but, if we’re being honest, a bit on the pricey side. Originally introduced as Lyft All Access, the program offered users the option to pay $299 upfront in exchange for 30 free rides. It was certainly a solid deal on a per-ride basis, but the $299 price point likely deterred many users from trying it out. And so, just one year later, Lyft is adding a somewhat simpler alternative it’s calling Lyft Pink.

With Lyft Pink, Lyft riders can pay an upfront fee of $19.99 and receive 15% off on all car rides. Subscribers can also take advantage of three complimentary rides on bikes or scooters operated by Lyft. What’s more, all Pink subscribers can also enjoy priority airport pickups, relaxed cancellation fees, and a number of other perks that Lyft will presumably announce sooner rather than later.

HBO just cancelled its ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel starring Naomi Watts

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Game of Thrones fans are having a rough week, headlined by a cringeworthy public appearance by showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. They’ve shied away from the spotlight since their massively successful show ended with a miserable final season a few months ago, but they decided to show up to the Austin Film Festival and pretty much confirm to everyone that they had no idea what they were doing and couldn’t believe HBO took a chance on them. Read our report from Monday covering their remarks at the festival if you don’t believe me.

And now, another bit of depressing news for Game of Thrones fans — HBO has just unceremoniously stuck a shard of dragonglass through the heart of the super-secretive prequel starring Naomi Watts.
