Apple might not release a MacBook Pro with an improved keyboard design until next year

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’ve been patiently waiting for Apple to fix the butterfly keyboard design it introduced a few years back, you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer. While we saw a few reports pointing towards Apple introducing a 16-inch MacBook Pro with a more reliable scissor-style keyboard design sometime this month, a new research note from Ming-Chi Kui (via MacRumors) relays that we won’t see a new keyboard design until 2020.

Kuo doesn’t specify which MacBook model will be the first to re-introduce the scissor switch keyboard, but it’s long been assumed that it would be rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro. Either way, it stands to reason that the entirety of Apple’s notebook line will eventually transition over to the scissor switch keyboard next year.

We already know one of the PlayStation 5’s most important new features

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The next-gen Sony and Microsoft gaming consoles are one year away from release, but there’s already plenty of talk about the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. Sony just confirmed the official name of the product and announced several innovations for the new controller, while Microsoft is ready to offer customers an easy upgrade path from the Xbox One X to Project Scarlett if they act fast. Both devices will provide the same kind of hardware and performance, with AMD creating the custom processors and graphics cards these next-gen consoles require. And both of them will likely sell for the same price, as the two companies will fight fiercely for new customers.

Backward compatibility may prove to be a key feature for both consoles, and one developer says it’s the kind of feature that should boost the adoption of the PlayStation 5. Of course, the same probably goes for the next-gen Xbox, but the PS4’s massive success could give Sony the edge.

This $9 Echo Dot deal is so insane, everyone thought it was a mistake

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Are you a Prime member? Of course you are. Do you love Alexa? Of course you do. Well there’s a sale on Amazon right now that you definitely have to check out because, to be frank, it’s one of the best deals we’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s such an incredible deal that everyone thought it was a pricing mistake when it was first discovered.

Here’s how it works: Amazon is offering Prime members a $0.99 Echo Dot bundled with one month of its Amazon Music Unlimited service, which costs $7.99. That’s a total of $8.98. If you’re smart, you’ll keep Amazon Music Unlimited and ditch Spotify or Apple Music, because Amazon offers the same great streaming service as those other two, but for less money. If you’d rather stick with what you know, that’s okay too — just go to this page anytime after you place your order and you can cancel Amazon Music Unlimited. You’ll still get to keep streaming for the rest of the month, and you’ll get to keep your $9 Echo Dot!

Echo Dot (3rd Gen) for $0.99 and 1 month of Amazon Music Unlimited for $7.99 with Auto-renewal…: $8.98

Here’s some additional info from the product page:

  • Get unlimited access to 50 million songs. Always ad-free.
  • Listen offline with unlimited skips.
  • Our most popular smart speaker – with a fabric design and improved speaker for richer and louder sound.
  • Voice control your music – Stream songs from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Sirius XM, and others. You can also listen to audiobooks from Audible.
  • Bigger, better sound – Pair with a second Echo Dot (3rd gen) for rich, stereo sound. Fill your home with music with compatible Echo devices in different rooms.
  • Ready to help – Ask Alexa to play music, answer questions, read the news, check the weather, set alarms, control compatible smart home devices, and more.
  • Connect with others – Call almost anyone hands-free. Instantly drop in on other rooms in your home or make an announcement to every room with a compatible Echo device.
  • Use another speaker – Connect to your own speakers over Bluetooth or with a 3.5 mm audio cable.
  • Alexa has skills – With 50,000+ skills, Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new skills like tracking fitness, playing games, and more.
  • Voice control your smart home – Turn on lights, adjust thermostats, lock doors, and more with compatible connected devices.

New iPhone 12 leak says all 2020 iPhones will have 5G

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For quite some time, the expectation has been that Apple would release its first 5G iPhone in 2020. By next fall, most smartphone vendors will have launched a 5G handset (in fact, most have already), and it’s hard to see Apple skipping out. The only question is whether or not Apple will follow Samsung’s lead and release a separate 5G model, or if all of the 2020 iPhone models will be compatible with 5G. And now, we might have an answer.

I watched 3 hours of Apple TV+ last night. Ignore most of what you’ve read

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I had a conversation a few weeks ago with Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner for Netflix’s new fantasy series The Witcher that’s shaping up to fill the Game of Thrones-sized hole in the hearts of pop culture fans and which is debuting on the streamer any day now. What we talked about is, of course, the subject for another post, but I mention her now because of her philosophy about TV and what she thinks makes for quality televised entertainment. There’s no big mystery to it, really, she was saying — at the end of a long day, after work, when she’s got some free time to kill when she wants to unwind, she wants TV that does at least one of two things, and preferably both of these: She wants to be indulged, and she wants to be entertained.

I had her words ringing in my ears tonight as I spent about 3 hours enjoying an early screening of the slate of shows debuting on Friday with the launch of Apple TV+. I focused on the two highest-profile series, For All Mankind and The Morning Show, and let me say right off the bat: I found both to be entertaining — and not only that, but while each is weighed down by the flaws that bedevil any series during its maiden season, I would argue that neither is deserving of the harshest criticism that’s been levied at it so far this week, with the lifting of review embargoes.
