Sony revealed November’s free PlayStation 4 games for PlayStation Plus subscribers on Wednesday. As has been the case most months since the company dumped PS3 and PS Vita games, both titles are once again totally worth adding to your library. If you haven’t played Nioh, it’s one of the best Dark Souls games (that isn’t actually a Dark Souls game) I’ve ever played. It will test you, but it’s a challenge you need to experience for yourself.

The other game is Outlast 2, and while I’m not a big horror fan myself, people who are fans of the genre seem to love these games, so download it or add it to your library while it’s free next month.

Another year, another devastating breakout of wildfire in California. This troubling trend shows no sign of slowing down, and that’s bad news for Californians who have been forced to evacuate as smoke and fire spreads across huge chunks of the state.

NASA isn’t in the business of fighting fires, at least not directly, but that doesn’t mean the agency isn’t doing everything it can to help. With its powerful eyes in the sky, NASA’s satellites can rapidly detect wildfires that pop up in remote areas that would otherwise go unnoticed for some time, and its latest images of the current fires raging in California are truly incredible.

Huawei rushed its Mate 30 announcement this year, unveiling the new flagship just days after Apple took the stage to announce the iPhone 11. The Mate 30 Pro was officially introduced just a day before the iPhone 11 hit stores, but the phone came with a massive “flaw”: The lack of official Google apps, caused by the US ban.

And while Huawei’s press event for the Mate 30 series may have arrived a lot earlier than expected, its late 2019 flagship has yet to hit stores in some of Huawei’s most important markets. European fans of Huawei smartphones will soon be able to purchase the Mate 30 Pro and the regular Mate 30, though, assuming they’re ready to ditch Google’s version of Android in favor of Huawei’s alternative.

Microsoft has announced the slate of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games that will be freely available to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers in November, and it’s not much better than October’s. These posts are supposed to be informational rather than opinionated, but when looking at what Microsoft has been offering lately versus Sony’s free games for PS Plus subscribers, it’s impossible not to see the massive gulf between the two.

That said, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter is a fun Xbox game, and although I’ve never played it, The Final Station looks like a fascinating indie title and will definitely be added to my library when it goes free.

When police and first responders arrived at the location of a single-car crash in South Point, Ohio, late Friday night, they were greeted with a horrific sight: The driver, Sidney Wolfe, was covered in blood, with a massive stream coming down her face and soaking her hair and clothing. It’s exactly the kind of thing that EMTs are trained to deal with, but it wasn’t what it seemed.

Wolfe, currently a student at Marshall University in West Virginia, is a cast member in a stage adaptation of the Stephen King horror story Carrie. Wolfe’s terrifying appearance was actually just a costume, and aside from a bruise on her leg, she was unharmed.

WhatsApp is easily one of the most popular messaging apps out there, and Facebook’s only chat app that supports end-to-end encryption, just like iMessage on the iPhone. The advantage of WhatsApp is that you can use it across devices to stay in touch with your contacts regardless of their mobile operating system.

Earlier this year, Pixar released a new short film as part of its SparkShorts animation initiative that, in my opinion, is tailor-made for any of you out there who loved Wall-E. The short is called Smash and Grab, and it features a pair of adorable robots toiling away in factory-like drudgery, recognizing that at least they have each others’ friendship.

The robots have bright, luminescent eyes, move and behave a little like humans and communicate via cute beeps and boops. There is a bit of a story packed into the short, which is gorgeously animated — and which Disney has wisely decided will be included in a collection of new, original Pixar content that will be exclusive to the company’s streaming service, Disney+, which launches on November 12.

It’s no secret that iPhone sales haven’t exactly been skyrocketing in recent years.
