AirPods Pro teardown reveals some fascinating secrets
If you were holding out hope that Apple’s latest AirPods model might be easier to take apart and repair than previous versions of the wireless headphones, we have some bad news for you. On Thursday, iFixit shared its teardown of the new AirPods Pro, and they were awarded the same repairability score of zero as the original AirPods.
Beyond confirming what we already knew, the teardown also uncovered a few interesting details about the AirPods Pro that haven’t been shared elsewhere. For example, each AirPod Pro weighs 0.19 oz (5.4 g), which is a third more than the previous model. The elongated charging case was heavier as well, coming in at 1.61 oz (45.6 g) compared to the 1.34 oz (38 g) of the case that shipped with the AirPods 2. As iFixit notes, bigger is often better when it comes to battery life, as was the case with the iPhone 11 line that launched earlier this fall.

People are getting really, really excited about the wrong iPhone 12 rumor
Apple on Wednesday afternoon reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $3.03 per share, handily beating the Street’s consensus on the back of record revenue totaling $64 billion. Anytime Apple recorded a big beat like that in the past, we all knew that it could be attributed almost entirely to strong iPhone sales, but that’s not the case anymore. Top smartphone markets around the world are saturated and flagship devices are more expensive than ever, so people are keeping them longer than ever. As a result, Apple recently adjusted its strategy to focus more on services and wearables. Considering Apple’s top smartphone rival Samsung just reported September-quarter profit that plummeted a whopping 56% on year, it’s fairly safe to say that Apple made the right decision.
While there’s no question that adjusting its strategy to rely less on iPhone sales was the proper move, there’s also no question that the iPhone is still Apple’s most popular and most talked-about product. There’s simply nothing else in the consumer electronics industry that generates buzz like the iPhone. And considering next year’s new iPhone 12 lineup is shaping up to be Apple’s biggest update since its design overhaul on 2017’s iPhone X, it’s no mystery why the iPhone 12 is already generating so much buzz despite being nearly a year away from release.

PS5 might have one huge advantage over the Xbox and even gaming PCs
The PS5 is easily one of the most popular things in gaming right now, even though the console doesn’t officially exist. You won’t be able to buy the PlayStation 5 until about a year from now, and Sony will need at least three more months to properly unveil it. Truth be told, we already know some of the most important things about the next-gen PlayStation, its specs, which will deliver a major boost over its predecessors, and make possible new gaming experiences. The same goes for the equally secret Xbox Scarlett, which shares the PS5’s main specs. But Microsoft, unlike Sony, hasn’t announced the official name of the console, and we haven’t seen any Xbox Scarlett dev kits leaked. Microsoft, in fact, has revealed fewer details about its next console than Sony did, as the latter has recently announced a brand new controller, and quietly revealed some of the console’s new features. Among them is a trick that might be exclusive to PS5, for all we know, although it’d make sense for the new Xbox to support it as well. And, funnily enough, it’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that actually reminded me about this cool Sony invention for the upcoming console.

An image of the unreleased 16-inch MacBook Pro was found hiding in macOS
Apple opted not to host another press conference this year, as it was the case last October and in some of the previous years, even though the mid-September iPhone event didn’t reveal all the product launches we expected. Earlier this week, Apple quietly unveiled the brand new AirPods Pro that had been present in rumors for several months but said nothing about the Mac Pro, whose launch date is still a mystery, in spite of the professional desktop having been unveiled all the way back in June. Also, it’s unclear at this point whether Apple will go forward with other product launches this year, although leaks keep surfacing proof that Apple may have developed at least two products that are yet to be official, including the AirTags trackers and the 16-inch MacBook Pro — the iPad Pro might not get a refresh this year after all. The latest Apple leak gives us our best look at the 16-inch laptop, although it’s not a complete press render.

Raccoons invaded a college library, but maybe they just wanted an education
Any students searching for a quiet place to study on the campus of Arkansas State University this past weekend quickly realized the school’s library had been taken over by unexpected visitors. Multiple students reported that raccoons had invaded the school, taking up residence in the tall shelves of books.
It’s not immediately clear how the raccoons broke into the school or why they decided that the library was the best place to hang out, but the school reportedly took quick action to ensure that the animals were safely captured.
