These are the 15 most-watched shows on Netflix for the week

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A top Netflix executive insisted publicly on Thursday that the streamer isn’t worried at all and won’t be distracted by the arrival of Disney+ this week onto the streaming scene. Whether you believe that or think it’s mostly bluster, what’s not in question is the weapon Netflix will use to fight back and hold onto the ground it’s seized as the Streaming Wars continue to unfold. That weapon is content, and lots and lots of it — both third-party, licensed shows and movies as well as content Netflix has commissioned or which falls into the “Netflix Originals” bucket.

Streaming search engine Reelgood has once again given us a rundown of data based on the behaviors of the users of its service — data that includes the 15 most-watched shows on Netflix between November 5 and November 11. At the top of the list this week is NBC’s comedy about the afterlife (The Good Place), while most of the rest of the top 5 is comprised of Netflix originals, like The End of the F***ing World, Daybreak, and Stranger Things.

How to get the new Disney+ bundle with ad-free Hulu and ESPN+

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With over 600 movies and shows at launch, Disney+ is already quite a value proposition at $6.99 a month, especially if you took advantage of any of the great deals that popped up in the months prior to release. But for some users, the Disney bundle, which includes Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu with ads is an even better deal at $12.99 a month (that’s $5 less than each of the services would cost you individually every month).

The only problem with the Disney bundle is that, by default, it comes with Hulu’s ad-supported tier, and there doesn’t appear to be any way to choose Hulu (No Ads) instead. Thankfully, there is actually a way to get ad-free Hulu as part of the bundle, but you’re going to have to jump through a few hoops to get it.

Apple Store employee fired after stealing an intimate photo from a customer’s iPhone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

An employee at an Apple Store in Bakersfield, California has been fired after it was discovered that he texted himself an intimate photo found on a customer’s iPhone. The story first came to light when Gloria Fuentes — who is the customer in question — posted a detailed recap of events on her Facebook page.

As Fuentes recounts, she went to a nearby Apple store to get the display on her iPhone repaired. Ahead of time, Fuentes — in the interest of safety and privacy — began deleting a number of sensitive photos from her phone. Her appointment at the Apple Store, however, was pushed up by a few hours and subsequently didn’t leave her with enough time to delete everything she was intending to.

At an event in New York on Thursday, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos was asked the question that he had to have expected just two days after the highly-publicized and hotly-anticipated launch of Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. Now that it’s here, Sarandos was asked during the Paley Center for Media’s 24th Paley International Council Summit: What does that mean for you? What changes for Netflix?

“Nothing,” answered the Netflix executive.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon blew up in April, but it’s alive again

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SpaceX has enjoyed many successes in 2019. It delivered many satellites into orbit for its clients, it launched the Falcon Heavy again, and it sent an empty Crew Dragon to the International Space Station in a successful demonstration of its crew-ferrying capabilities. It was all going so well… until it didn’t.

Unfortunately, a static fire test of Crew Dragon in April resulted in a catastrophic explosion and total loss of the spacecraft. It was a major setback for SpaceX and NASA’s commercial crew program. An investigation uncovered the likely cause of the failure and the problem was fixed, clearing the way for a much more successful test on Wednesday.

Why the Motorola Razr’s display won’t break as easily as the Galaxy Fold’s

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the more remarkable things about the original iPhone was how quickly it made established handset makers irrelevant. In seemingly the blink of an eye, the iPhone set the blueprint for what a modern-day smartphone should look and act like. In the process, entrenched players like Motorola and Nokia quickly found themselves scrambling for scraps.

Motorola in particular represents an interesting case-study, if only because the company was behind one of the more popular and iconic phones of the pre-iPhone era — the Razr. Boasting a svelte design, the original Motorola Razr was a bonafide phenomenon and ultimately become one of the best selling mobile phones in history. Now, about 15 years after the original Razr hit the market, Motorola has decided to leverage the nostalgia surrounding the device with a new foldable smartphone it’s calling — wait for it — the Razr.

Antitrust probe into Google’s business practices expands to include Android and search

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

While tech companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and Facebook have made our collective lives easier in a myriad of ways, there’s a growing consensus that these tech giants have accumulated too much power and influence. In turn, each of the above companies has been subject to an increasing amount of antitrust scrutiny over the past few months. As an illustrative point, one of the cornerstones of Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign is that she’ll work to break big tech companies up, similar to how AT&T in the early 1980s was broken up into seven independent companies.

Google in particular is certainly no stranger to antitrust investigations and subsequent penalties. Just a few months ago, for example, the search giant was slapped with a $1.7 billion fine by the EU on account of “abusive practices” related to its advertising business. Previously, Google in 2018 was hit with a whopping $5 billion fine by the EU for leveraging the market dominance of Android to further the adoption of Chrome and other Google apps.

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Apple Smart Battery Case for iPhone 7/8 is definitely the best battery case out there for Apple’s iPhones. It’s sleek and comfortable, but it also offers integration with the iPhone that you won’t get from any other case. The problem, of course, is that it’s very expensive. Many iPhone users are willing to pay the Apple tax, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that… but why pay more than you have to? Head over to Amazon right now and you can get one in either black or white at a $21 discount!

Apple Smart Battery Case (for iPhone 7) – Black: $78.00

Here’s what you need to know from the product page:

  • The Smart Battery Case for iPhone 7 gives you extra battery life with the look and protection of an Apple-designed case.
  • Combined with the Smart Battery Case, iPhone 7 provides up to 22 hours of battery life for browsing the web, up to 24 hours of watching HD video, and 26 hours of talk time.
  • The Smart Battery Case also works intelligently with your iPhone to charge simultaneously when you’re plugged in, so both case and iPhone will have more than enough battery life to get you through the day, and then some.
  • The soft elastomer hinge and one-piece design make it easy to put the case on and take it off. You can even connect it to any Lightning accessory, such as the Lightning Dock. And iOS 10 or later allows you to see the battery status of your iPhone 7, your Smart Battery Case, and even your Apple Watch, all in one place.
