Meet Light Phone, the phone that can save you from your smartphone
The Light Phone pictured above is a phone I’d like to use on a daily basis. It’s got no touchscreen display, no texting apps, no games and no browser. It’s purpose is to solely help you reach the people in your life you want to connect with in the most basic way possible – by calling them. It’s also supposed to work with your existing smartphone, though.

McDonald’s is insanely desperate and this picture proves it
There’s a rule in political campaigns that if you’re defensively explaining yourself all the time, that means you’re losing. If that rule holds true in the fast food world, then McDonald’s must really be in a world of hurt right now. Harry McCracken posted a picture on his Twitter account that shows McDonald’s has started creating paper place mats at its restaurants whose sole purpose is to debunk nasty Internet rumors about its food.

What Apple’s failed HDTV plans tell us about an Apple Car
For anyone who thinks that Apple releasing a car is all but a sure thing, the lessons from Apple’s now-abandoned efforts at developing an HDTV should not be ignored. The Wall Street Journal this week detailed how Apple spent nearly a decade researching and prototyping HDTV sets before opting to abandon the idea altogether. While Apple could have undoubtedly released a branded HDTV if it wanted to, it decided not to after struggling to come up with compelling features that would have differentiated its own HDTV from rival sets.
The arc of this story is not wholly surprising or even unique; Apple spent a few years and a whole lot of money researching a product before realizing it wasn’t worth pursuing. As Steve Jobs once said, ” I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.”
And yet, people still seem to be looking at the mythical Apple Car as all but a sure thing, all the while ignoring the fact that Apple constantly researches new technologies and products that, more often than not, never see the light of day.

iOS 9 to give Apple Maps a badly needed feature that Google’s had for years
Apple Maps has had its fair share of issues over the years, but one of the most disappointing aspects of the service is its lack of directions for those of us who regularly use transit systems to get around. As a resident of New York City, Apple Maps just isn’t a feasible option for me at the moment (even if it did function properly), but according to 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman, transit support is finally coming to Apple Maps alongside the iOS 9 update next month.
