Services like Netflix are driving U.S. households to cut the cord at an unprecedented rate, and studies suggest that impressive rate won’t be slowing anytime soon. The unbreakable bundles, poor customer service and high cost of pay TV packages has made consumers all too eager to ditch their cable and satellite TV services, so it makes sense that cord cutting has exploded now that entertainment is widely available elsewhere.

As if the reasons to loathe pay TV service providers weren’t already numerous enough, a recent report sheds new light on a scam that cable and satellite TV companies have been pulling for years. And the worst part is that people have known about it all along, they just never realized how bad it was.

You know what people really don’t like? Data caps. They don’t like them on their mobile phones and they really, really don’t like them on their home Internet services. This hasn’t stopped Comcast and other wireline ISPs from trying to ram them down consumers’ throats anyway, although customer resistance to such caps is so strong that the companies wouldn’t dare roll them out nationwide just yet.

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s kind of crazy how quickly face detection and recognition technology managed to push its way into the mainstream. Over the past few years we’ve seen face recognition technology reach desktop photo software like iPhoto and even mass market smartphones from the likes of Samsung. And of course, there are no shortage of stories centering on government agencies who use face recognition technology for identification and surveillance purposes.

Setting the bar even higher, researchers from Germany have reportedly developed a new technology that allows facial recognition software to identify faces even in the dark. Whereas traditional facial recognition software involves the comparison of two photos, both of which must be taken in well-lit environments, the approach German computer scientists came up with involves using a person’s thermal signature.
