Stairway to the stars: Company receives patent for ‘space elevator’
Like something out of “The Jetsons,” Canadian firm Thoth Technology has been granted a U.S. patent for a space elevator. The proposed “freestanding space tower” would reach a little over 12 miles above the Earth, according to an announcement from the company.

One of Android fans’ biggest fears about the Galaxy Note 5 may be unfounded
Last week, we noted that many Android fans were already complaining about the just-announced Galaxy Note 5. One of their biggest complaints was that the Note 5 had a 3,000mAh battery, which was actually smaller than the 3,220mAh battery that came with the Galaxy Note 4. While we found this criticism reasonable at the time, it’s also the case that specs sheets don’t tell us everything and it turns out the Note 5 might actually deliver stronger battery performance than its predecessors.

Such is the case in central Washington right now, where the town of Chelan was evacuated after wildfires proved to be too difficult to contain. However, one camera man recorded an amazing video of a 10 Tanker Air Carrier DC-10 airplane making a drop directly over him.

To much of the TV viewing population’s surprise, this summer has been packed with shows worth tuning in for. Between True Detective, Mr. Robot, Halt and Catch Fire and BoJack Horseman, there has been plenty to keep us occupied, but most of those shows have either finished airing or are ending their seasons soon.
So now that we’ve still got several weeks to wait before the network TV fall premieres, is there anything else worth watching in the meantime?

Microsoft’s Windows 10 launch has, for the most part, been an all-around success. To date, the total number of users who have downloaded Microsoft’s next-gen OS is likely beyond 27 million.
The one cause for concern, though, is that we seemingly can’t go a week without hearing some new story about how Windows 10 is a bit on the intrusive side when it comes to user privacy. Even though users can opt-out of some of the OS’ more questionable privacy-oriented services, it’s still hard to ignore the fact that Windows 10 is seemingly spying on everything you do.

A terrifying explosion shocked China and the world on Friday, leaving more than one hundred people dead and hundreds of others injured. The images coming from the Port of Tianjin over the weekend shocked the world, as firefighters fought fires and additional explosions in the area. However, the high-resolution aerial image (see the full version of it below) of the Tianjin explosion crater truly shows the devastating force of the blast.

Latest iPhone 6s rumor offers detailed info on internal hardware
The iPhone 6s launch event is weeks away and now we’re getting some rumors on the nitty-gritty technical specifications of Apple’s newest smartphone. According to a Chinese source familiar with Apple plans, the company will use a System in Package (SiP) architecture for the motherboard of the iPhone 6s, a feat first seen in the Apple Watch. The source, whose accuracy with Apple rumors isn’t established, posted a bunch of alleged iPhone 6s schematics on Weibo and additional details about the iPhone 6s.
