New military radio uses soldiers’ bones to send messages

A new radio technology lets warfighters talk to each other by harnessing their bones to transmit and listen to messages.

The technology leverages the human body’s natural ability to transmit sound through bone. It takes the bone-transmitted messages and then delivers them directly to the inner ear through the warfighter’s helmet.

Warfighters can both listen to messages and send messages this way – and the tech is the mere weight and size of a small coin.

Sorry T-Mobile, Sprint’s new iPhone 6s upgrade plan is the cheapest we’ve seen yet

The way we buy smartphones is changing rapidly, and now carriers are locked in a back and forth game of undercutting to provide users with the most attractive deals.

Earlier today, Sprint mildly adjusted its iPhone upgrade plan such that qualified customers can now trade in their existing smartphones and get a new iPhone 6s for just $15 per month. Without a trade-in, users can still get a new iPhone 6s for just $26 per month.

3 reasons Apple’s iPhone 6s Upgrade Program is an exciting idea

One of the unexpected announcements from Apple’s Hey Siri event on Wednesday was the official iPhone Upgrade Program that lets buyers purchase an iPhone in installments directly from Apple, bundled with an AppleCare+ extended warranty. The program is similar to what some carriers are already offering their subscribers, and while it might not be the overall cheapest option – thank T-Mobile for that, at least for the time being – it might still be the better program in the long run, as Apple’s offer has some advantages over the others.

Good job, TSA: Anyone with a 3D printer can make a key that fits your luggage lock

In spite of the many security policies it enforces, the TSA isn’t really on top of its game when it comes to guarding its own secrets. Not long ago, a publication ran a story on TSA security measures complete with a high-resolution image that showed the master luggage keys the agency uses to open locked luggage. At the time, it was believed the picture would provide enough details for anyone their own master keys – and it looks like that’s exactly what happened. Anyone with a 3D printer can download the schematics off the Internet and print their own keys.

One of the coolest Apple TV features won’t work with Netflix or HBO

The Apple TV demo we saw earlier this week was unbelievably slick. In particular, some of the Siri tricks Apple showed off were especially impressive.

Tell Siri to “Show me that Modern Family episode with Edward Norton” and, boom, just like that the correct episode shows up. In another example, an Apple employee was able to use Siri to search just for the James Bond movies featuring Sean Connery.

Some of the other Apple TV features that had TV fans excited included the ability to tell a program to “skip ahead 8 minutes” or even go back 15-seconds in time if a user asks “What did he/she just say?”

During fashion house FTL Moda‘s New York Fashion Week show at Grand Central Station’s Vanderbilt Hall on Sunday, model Rebekah Marine will strut down the runway with one of the most unique accessories — a bionic arm. Philadelphia-based Marine, who was born without a right forearm, was fitted with an i-limb quantum earlier this year. The i-limb is one of the most advanced prostheses available, and with it, Marine has quickly become one of the most visible faces in a fashion world becoming increasingly more inclusive to models with disabilities.

iOS 9 Jailbreak: Yes, Apple’s latest version of iOS has already been cracked

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple will release iOS 9 next week, and some iOS 8 users who rely on unofficial apps installed on their iPhones and iPads after jailbreaking them are worried about upgrading. With each software release, Apple typically patches the security flaws used to jailbreak previous software versions. As a result, updating to the most recent iOS version usually invalidates existing jailbreaks.

However, one well-known hacker has already shown an untethered jailbreak proof-of-concept on YouTube, suggesting that a public iOS 9 jailbreak won’t take very long at all.

Laugh if you want, but people are loving Apple’s new Pencil stylus

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I’m sure you’ve all heard the news by now; Apple’s new iPad Pro comes with a stylus. Actually, excuse me, it comes with a “3-axis, pressure-sensitive” digital writing utensil that Apple is calling the Apple Pencil. Of course, given Steve Jobs’ famous remarks about a stylus, it’s certainly easy to let the jokes fly and poke fun at Apple for releasing a device they previously mocked.

But once we get past all of that, Apple has seemingly delivered a stylus that, dare we say, people seem to really think is an incredible accessory. While we’ll have to wait until the iPad Pro launches in November before we get a full grasp on how useful it is, the initial impressions of the $99 accessory have been overwhelmingly positive.
