Apple’s cheapest new iPhone ever might still be a bad deal

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We knew just about everything to expect from Apple’s new iPhone SE long before it was announced on stage during a press conference last week. Weeks of leaks and rumors painted a nearly complete picture of the phone, which is essentially an iPhone 6s stuffed into an iPhone 5’s housing. Apple still managed to shock us all when it announced the phone’s base price, however: $399.

In other words for as little as $399 up front or $10 a month in markets where Apple’s installment plans are available, you can have the most powerful smartphone in the world. Impressive indeed, but is the new iPhone SE really as good a deal as it seems to be?

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung and Apple have a long history of legal battles that started several years ago when Samsung took inspiration from Apple’s iPhone and iPad to revamp its own mobile product line. A whole lot of inspiration, in fact. So it’s natural to presume when you see new that Samsung is getting sued again, Apple’s legal team will wind up on the other side of the court room. This time around, however, there’s a new suit that seeks to drag Samsung into court and it was brought forth by one of the most beloved legends in sports: Pele.

We have good news and bad news about Microsoft’s chatbot experiment involving Tay, a Twitter account that the company hopes will someday interact with other Twitter users in a meaningful way without human assistance. The good news is that Tay is not a racist anymore. But the bad news is that it has apparently morphed into something else the world doesn’t need anymore of: A spambot.

There are more than seven billion people in the world, and life expectancy keeps growing thanks to the unbelievable advancements in modern medicine. However, the human body can’t outlive its expiration date, and organs often fail and require viable replacements. Roam3 is a waterproof action camera that costs way less than a GoPro

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The GoPro Hero4 is a terrific action camera, but at a time when more and more companies are coming out with rival cameras, we’re really not sure it’s worth the steep $330 price tag anymore. Seriously, there are so many other options out there that deliver a high-quality experience with a far lower price tag.

Case in point: The Contour ROAM3 Waterproof HD Video Camera is just $89.99 on Amazon right now, and it can film high-quality 1080p video just like a GoPro.

Airbnb wants you to sleep with the fishes – well, sharks, to be precise

We’ve seen our fair share or unusual Airbnb listings, some a lot more welcoming than others, but sleeping underwater in a giant fish tank that houses no less than 35 sharks is an extraordinary feat that deserves some recognition. This marks the world’s first underwater Airbnb in Paris, where a giant 360-degree glass wall is the only thing to separate you and a friend from 3,000,000 liters of water. And, yes, 35 sharks.

How Apple could force the FBI to explain San Bernardino iPhone hack

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple beat the FBI this week, as it avoided a legal battle against the law enforcement agency over creating a backdoor into the San Bernardino iPhone. The war on encryption isn’t over yet, as both parties aren’t necessarily happy with this temporary solution. For the FBI, accessing the iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino shooters is crucial, but doesn’t solve its bigger problem: spying on encrypted communications or devices. Apple, on the other hand, is reportedly working on beefing up iPhone security. But for now, it has one other problem: the world knows there is a way to get peek at the data stored on an encrypted iPhone without knowing the PIN or password.

The FBI did not say whether it’ll share the vulnerability it discovered and successfully used on the San Bernardino iPhone 5c, with the help of an unnamed security company. But Apple might be able to use other legal cases that involve iPhones to force the Bureau to explain the hack.
