Tesla on Monday issued a voluntary recall for every Model X out on the road. Far less important but much more exciting was the release of a new easter egg for Tesla vehicles that unofficially pays homage to Mario Kart and Saturday Night Live. And in keeping with the video game motif, the activation of the easter egg requires a cheat code, so to speak.

Kobe Bryant and Michael B. Jordan star in brand new Apple TV ad

Apple yesterday released a brand new Apple TV ad featuring Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. No, not that Michael Jordan, but rather Michael B. Jordan of The Wire, Friday Night Lights and Creed fame. Coupled with Apple’s recent Cookie Monster themed iPhone 6s ad, Apple’s advertising has certainly been on a role as of late.

While previous Apple ads featuring Hollywood personalities have been largely forgettable (ahem, Samuel L. Jackson), if not somewhat annoying, Apple’s most recent effort actually works and delivers a few laughs in the process.

Think twice before you buy any off-brand electronics from Amazon. Recently, security researcher Mike Olsen decided to buy a set of outdoor surveillance cameras for a friend. He went straight to Amazon looking for deal, and found a relatively cheap set of six cameras with all of the necessary equipment included.

Unfortunately, there was a sneaky surprise waiting for him inside the box.

One year after it’s launch, things aren’t looking up for Apple Watch

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s been nearly one year since the launch of the Apple Watch. While the device is easily the most successful smartwatch ever released, it hasn’t exactly set the world on fire the way the iPhone and iPad once did. Well connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is projecting that Apple Watch shipments are actually going to decrease by 25% this year despite the fact that Apple is planning to release a second-generation Apple Watch.

It seems we rarely use our phones and computers anymore without some kind of connection to the web. Whether it’s through 3G, LTE, or Wi-Fi, we’re always looking to be connected to the internet.

Microsoft knows we’re always looking for ways to improve our connectivity and that’s why it’s figured out a way to fix a concern some internet users are having with Wi-Fi tethering.

The Windows 10 maker has created software that can intelligently adapt the power consumption of a smartphone to maximize battery life while keeping up a Wi-Fi hotspot that can be used by other devices to connect to the internet.

Tesla Model X recall highlights risk of massive Model 3 rollout

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Tesla earlier today issued a recall for the Model X, the company’s well-received crossover SUV based on the Model S platform. The reason for the recall lies in a design flaw affecting the vehicle’s third row of seats. Specifically, a faulty locking hinge on the last row of seats could potentially cause the seats to collapse forward during a crash.

While there have been no reported incidents to date, Tesla obviously wants to get ahead of the problem as early as possible.

“Despite [15] prior successful tests and no reports of a third row seat slipping in any customer vehicles,” Tesla said in an email to affected owners, “we have decided to conduct a voluntary recall as a precautionary measure and will be replacing all affected third row seat backs.”

Samsung is fixing the biggest problem with the Galaxy S7 edge

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The new Galaxy S7 edge is my favorite Android phone ever. In fact, it’s my favorite phone period in terms of hardware. In just a few short years, Samsung has gone from selling cheap-feeling plasticky flagship smartphones to building smartphone hardware that is absolutely best in class. Combine that with a gorgeous 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display in a shockingly compact form factor for a phablet, and you’ve got a recipe for success.

No phone is perfect though, and the S7 edge definitely ships along with some annoying issues. Thankfully though, a new update will fix the biggest complaint many users have with their new Samsung phablets.

Don’t expect big changes from this year’s ‘Apple Watch 2’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Since its release last year, the Apple Watch hasn’t exactly taken the world by storm. Sure, the device launched with a lot of hype and fanfare, but the Apple Watch hasn’t exactly become the homerun many believed it would be. Tellingly, Apple has still never disclosed sales figures for the Apple Watch. But to be fair, Tim Cook has said that sales have increased with each passing quarter.

The fact that the Apple Watch didn’t instantly become a revolutionary product, however, isn’t necessarily a troubling warning sign. Indeed, if we take a look back at Apple’s storied history, we see that it took some time for products like the iPod and the iPhone to truly become global phenomenons. That being the case, proponents of the Apple Watch have justifiably argued that we should reserve judgement on the device until the second-generation model is released.
