We witnessed a historical cosmic moment on Monday. Mercury, strolling along its orbit between the Earth and the Sun, appeared as a tiny black dot on top of our galaxy’s star. The entire 7.5-hour event was live streamed online, with NASA posting regular photo updates of Mercury’s transit. And now, you can relive the whole thing by watching a fantastic time-lapse video that condenses the 7.5-hour journey into a 2-minute video.

The iPhone 7 might not be the iPhone you’re waiting for

The iPhone 7 is obviously one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of the year, with multiple reports detailing its rumored design and features. After a leaked schematic of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 suggested the phone will be the same size as the iPhone 6s, a new picture suggests the new iPhone might also correct some of the worst things about previous designs.

However, this new photo of a purported iPhone 7 dummy unit also seems to contradict some of the other rumors out there, leaving questions as to which line of reports is accurate, if any. If this dummy does turn out to be the real deal though, it could mean that this year’s new iPhone isn’t so new after all.

Scammers are using fake tech support pages to steal thousands from unsuspecting users

While most topics in the tech world tend to engender impassioned debate, there’s one issue that everyone can unanimously agree on: tech scammers who prey on and take advantage of unsuspecting Internet users are the scourge of the earth. And while most people are familiar with scams that rely upon adware or ransomware, scammers have recently started using a new strategy that’s as clever as it is loathsome.

According to Malwarebytes Labs, a group of scammers who call themselves ‘Tech Kangroos’ have started putting up tech support webpages designed to look nearly identical to webpages from known software companies. In turn, when unsuspecting users undertake to seek out tech support help via search engines like Google or Bing, they’re naturally tricked into clicking on fraudulent websites. In short order, users are coerced and manipulated into paying hundreds of dollars for non-existent tech support.

Creative rises from the dead to try and destroy Android

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Do you remember Creative? In the early 2000s, the company had a brief period of being cool, as its Zen MP3 players were the anti-establishment alternative to the iPod. These days, the Singapore-based company mostly makes gaming headsets and computer speakers — nothing to do with smartphones, in other words. But thanks to a complaint filed against every big Android phone manufacturer, Creative has quietly declared war on Android.

The complaint is filed against a who’s-who of Android smartphones: Samsung, LG, HTC, BlackBerry, Sony, ZTE, Lenovo and Motorola. The issue at hand is music players: all the phones have ’em, and Creative has a patent it thinks is being infringed on. Specifically, all the phones are capable of “playing stored media files selected by a user from a hierarchical display.”

This is easily one of the coolest things we’ve come across in a long time. The iPhone is a fantastic phone but regardless of how much you like it, everyone has to acknowledge that it really doesn’t shine when it comes to battery life. So you always have to make sure you’ve got a charger nearby, and now you can carry a charger with you everywhere you go without adding any extra bulk.

The LifeLink Apple Certified Ultra-Portable Cable is barely thicker than a credit card and it’s the same width, so it’ll fit right in your wallet and you won’t even know it’s there until you need it.
