The crazy things politicians and reporters have said when they thought the mic was off

In a world where most everything that comes out of the mouths of politicians, celebrities and athletes is either rehearsed or generic boilerplate, it’s always refreshing and downright entertaining when a hot mic catches someone famous joking around or talking off the cuff, completely oblivious to the fact that they’re still being recorded. In a world of prepared soundbites, it’s always preferable to learn what people really think about a given person or issue.

Just this week, for instance, we’ve seen an unusual number of hot mic stories make the news. Specifically, we heard Fox News reporter Geraldo Rivera call Bernie Sanders “so annoying” and British Prime Minister David Cameron tell the Queen of England (on video!) that Nigeria and Afghanistan are “fantastically corrupt” and “possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world.”

Nope nope nope

It’s time to make Apple great again!

We have arrived at an interesting chapter in the story that is Apple. Sure the company is still pulling in far more money than any of its rivals, but the period of rapid growth that we all knew was unsustainable has finally come to an end and Wall Street is flipping. Of course when Wall Street flips, the media follows closely behind. One quick glance at Apple headlines right now and you’d think the company was on the verge of bankruptcy once again.

So where do we go from here?

Police can’t explain why their spy SUV was disguised as a Google truck

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

An image emerged online earlier this week showing a parked SUV that looked nothing like a Google Streetview car, even though it had a Google Maps sticker on it. Discovered hiding in “the shadows” of the Philadelphia Convention Center, the car had two license plate readers on the front. Unsuspecting people who have never seen a Google Streetview car might confuse the spy SUV for an actual Google Maps car. But savvy internet users who can tell the difference knew better than that, realizing this was likely a law enforcement car disguised in a most unexpected way.

Soon enough, police confirmed the SUV belonged to its fleet. But authorities also denied any involvement in adorning the car with a Google Maps decal. That’s hilarious, stupid and scary, all at the same time.

Facebook-owned Instagram rolled out an updated version of its mobile app earlier this week and it has been making waves ever since. This is the biggest update Instagram has released in quite some time, and it includes a floor to ceiling redesign that users absolutely love. Well, if you’re one of the users who can’t stand the look of Instagram’s new app icon, we’ll show you how to get the old one back on your iPhone in just a few seconds, with no jailbreaking or other hacks required.

Watch a Tesla Model X in Ludicrous Mode go head to head with a McLaren 650S supercar

When it comes to raw acceleration, it’s no secret that the Tesla Model S and Model X provide more bang for the buck than any other car on the market. While a tricked out Model S in Ludicrous Mode is capable of going from 0-60 in just 2.8 seconds, the Model X, despite being an SUV, is no slouch in the speed department either. Specifically, a Model X in Ludicrous Mode can rocket from 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds and can complete a quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds. And remember, this is an SUV we’re talking about.

With Tesla now getting a better handle on Model X production, deliveries have been increasing at a rapid clip all around the country. In turn, it’s no surprise that we’re finally starting to see the proliferation of Model X racing videos sprout up across the web.

45,000 people are demanding that Netflix do something it definitely won’t do

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix is one of the most universally adored services out there. Where as most companies have as many outspoken critics as they do fans, heaps of praise are constantly shoveled Netflix’s way by customers. Since it’s so rare to see users upset with the company, it’s definitely a change of pace when nearly 45,000 people band together and demand that Netflix change one of its policies — but that’s exactly what happened earlier this week.

ISPs’ latest dirty trick is removing data caps if you pay for TV

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Cable companies that have long milked cable subscriptions for profit are worried about how they’re going to replace that cash among new generations of cable-cutters. But maybe, just maybe, they won’t have to.

DSL Reports has spotted a trend among ISPs that at first glance, looks pretty good: AT&T and Bend will both remove their broadband caps if users also bundle TV and home phone. It looks like a deal for customers — no fee to remove data caps! — but really, it’s an out-and-out money grab.

There’s finally a wireless charger that’s truly wireless

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Wireless chargers are very cool if you have a smartphone that supports the relatively new tech, but shouldn’t a wireless charger actually be wireless? No, you don’t have to plug your phone in to charge it if you have a wireless charging pad, but the pad still needs to be plugged into the wall in order to work.

It’s time to go truly wireless and the ActionPie Qi Wireless 12000mAH Power Bank with Dual USB Port and LCD Display will do the trick.

Google’s Android VR headset seems all but confirmed

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In just a few days, Google will kick off this year’s edition of its popular Google I/O developer conference. We already have an idea of what we should expect from the main keynote of the show, with Android N being one of the likely stars of the show. However, Google will take Android in a different direction this year. Virtual reality is a top priority for the company, various rumors claimed in the previous months, and new evidence suggests a standalone Android VR headset is going to be unveiled soon.
