If you tried logging into Facebook this morning and got an error message, here’s why. The beleaguered social networking giant suffered a rare widespread outage, with users around the U.S. and beyond reporting they couldn’t access the service.

According to news accounts, the outage impacted most of the U.S. and almost all of the east coast. And while many users as of mid-day are starting to be able to access their accounts again, it does represent another misfire in what’s been a tough 2018 so far for the company.

New video shows off the foldable Samsung Galaxy F of your dreams

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung’s next big flagship smartphone launch will take place early next year, when the company unveils the new Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and a third lower-cost Galaxy S10 model. The new Galaxy S10 trio is expected to debut this coming February at the annual Mobile World Congress trade show, which is scheduled to take place from February 25th through March 1st in Barcelona, Spain. With that announcement timing in mind, it’s likely that Samsung’s new Galaxy S10 phones could be released as soon as mid-March, which is now just four months away. But there’s another new Android flagship that Samsung is set to release next year that has been taking attention away from the Galaxy S10 lately.

The foldable Samsung Galaxy F smartphone was first previewed last week at SDC 2018, Samsung’s developer conference. It might seem odd to preview a new upcoming smartphone long before its official unveiling, but there is a method to Samsung’s madness. The Galaxy F and other future folding phones from Samsung will have a special new interface and several unique features that make use of all the extra space a folding phone affords. Samsung needs to get developers on board so that there are good apps that make use of the new UI at launch.

While Samsung did give us a preview of prototype Galaxy F hardware, the phone’s final design is still a mystery. If it ends up looking anything like the device pictured in this new concept video, however, it might actually be well worth its rumored $1,700 price tag.

Ryan Reynolds voices Pikachu in the bizarre first trailer for ‘Detective Pikachu’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You need to see it to believe it, but the first trailer for the live-action Pokemon movie, Detective Pikachu, has arrived. Like the 3DS game of the same name, Detective Pikachu follows Tim Goodman, the son of a missing private eye, as he teams up with his father’s ex-partner (the titular Detective Pikachu, voiced by Ryan Reynolds) to find his dad. And before you ask, yes, this is real movie that will actually play in theaters on May 10th, 2019.

Directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Monsters Vs. Aliens), Detective Pikachu will star Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Tim, Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird) as junior reporter Lucy, and Ken Watanabe (Godzilla) as Lt. Yoshida. Sadly, despite a massive petition, Danny DeVito didn’t get the lead role.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, the CDC is warning of a deadly turkey salmonella outbreak

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching which means family gatherings, lots of laughter, and of course the traditional consumption of one particular kind of bird. But while you’re making plans to whip up the most impressive turkey dish you can muster, remember that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are still working on a nearly year-long investigation into a turkey salmonella outbreak that has already claimed at least one life and left over 150 sick.

In a new update to its ongoing report, the CDC reveals that a further 74 confirmed cases of salmonella have now been added to the case, bringing the total number of infections to 164 spanning 35 states.

Netflix to test lower-priced streaming plan in some markets

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Speaking with Bloomberg in an interview last Friday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings revealed that Netflix will test a new, lower-priced tier of its streaming service to potentially boost sales in foreign markets.

That’s basically all there is to know at the moment, as Hastings wouldn’t confirm when the test will take place, which markets would see the lower price tier, or even whether or not the lower price would be permanent. The primary goal of the new tier would be to lure in more Asian subscribers, so there’s no telling if US users (or users in any current market) would see a new, cheaper plan alongside the three plans that Netflix currently offers.

Plenty of people know when they’ve had a few too many, and they do the responsible thing by letting someone else drive them home. In the age of Uber and Lyft, there’s no excuse whatsoever for getting behind the wheel of a car when you’re drunk. Of course some people have a few drinks and think that they’re sober enough to drive, and those borderline cases are the ones that get responsible people in trouble. Thankfully, there are now tools at our disposal that completely remove guesswork from the equation. The BACtrack C8 Personal Breathalyzer is small enough to fit in your pocket and it has the same type of accurate sensor used by law enforcement. This model also have a fantastic extra feature though: It gives you the approximate amount of time it’ll take before you’ll be sober again.

  • ZEROLINE TECHNOLOGY – With BACtrack’s innovative ZeroLine technology, you’re in control of your night. After your BAC results are delivered, ZeroLine estimates the time until your BAC is 0.00%, allowing you to quickly and easily know where you stand.
  • ULTRA-PORTABLE – One of the smallest police-grade alcohol tester ever created, the tiny BACtrack C8 weighs only 2 oz. It’s small size makes it easy to put it in your pocket or purse and have it with you any time you drink!

We still have no idea what the Galaxy S10 looks like, says world’s most accurate Samsung insider

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Do you see the sleek Galaxy S10 render at the top of this page? How fantastic would it be if the real thing ended up looking just like that? This gorgeous Galaxy S10 concept shows a phone that maintains the overall Infinity Display design that Samsung has become known for, but pulls it into the future with a few key changes. First, the big bezels above and below the screen have been shrunken down to give the phone a much more modern design. This year’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 are beautiful phones, but those big bezels have no place on a flagship handset in 2018, let alone next year in 2019. Then, to make room for the selfie camera that no longer fits in the bezel above Samsung’s curved Super AMOLED screen, a small hole has been cut through the display near the top.

This concept render didn’t just come out of nowhere. We’ve seen a number of rumors and leaks that suggested this is an accurate representation of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ design. Unfortunately, it turns out that this gorgeous render doesn’t actually show us what Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S10 will look like. In fact, it turns out that nothing we’ve seen so far has been accurate.
