Meteorologist explains why Trump’s tweet on the California wildfires was horribly misinformed
The wildfires sweeping through Southern California over the past few days have been nothing short of devastating and profoundly tragic. Upwards of 31 people have died as a result and more than 230 people still remain missing. With entire neighborhoods destroyed, hundreds of thousands of Californians have been forced to evacuate and the photos and video footage we’ve seen of the wreckage thus far have been shocking and grim. The city of Paradise in particular was completely destroyed.
Amidst the tragedy and ongoing flames, which firefighters are still battling to keep under control, President Trump over the weekend fired off a tweet that many were quick to categorize as tasteless, callous, and completely misinformed. In case you missed it, Trump’s tweet curiously placed blame on the wildfires on a mismanagement of funds while also threatening to stop funding to certain agencies.

The federal government is begging everyone to move more
While the debate around health insurance and “pre-existing conditions” continues to rage in political circles the U.S. government is now officially begging people to take care of themselves a bit better. In a new report released by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), the sedentary lifestyles of many Americans is under attack, and for good reason.
According to the report, only around 26 percent of men and 19 percent of women actually get the recommended amount of physical activity on a daily basis. This is an incredibly grim figure, and the HHS estimates that failure to exercise or even just move around ultimately costs nearly $117 billion every year.

Apple selling fewer iPhone XRs than projected, but can make up for it with iPhone XS sales
Widely respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo writes that sales of Apple’s new iPhone XR are slightly below expectations, corroborating a handful of previous reports we’ve seen over the past few days. In a new investor note obtained by MacRumors, Kuo lowered his estimate for iPhone XR sales by upwards of 20% for the current holiday quarter.
Now is this reason to panic? Not necessarily. To this point, Kuo articulates that lower demand for the iPhone XR may be offset — in a financial sense — by sales of Apple’s pricier iPhone XS models. Indeed, Apple’s most recent quarterly report illustrates that Apple — with more margin friendly devices in the mix — can easily generate more revenue even in the face of stagnating iPhone sales.

OnePlus will release a 5G phone early next year, but it won’t be the OnePlus 7
A few weeks ago when OnePlus confirmed that it’ll launch a Qualcomm-powered 5G phone in the first half of the year, we assumed the company was talking about the OnePlus 7. That’s because OnePlus only makes two smartphones every year. Or, better said, that’s what OnePlus used to do. Apparently, the company’s first 5G phone is indeed coming in early 2019, but it won’t be the OnePlus 7.

Rocket Lab successfully sent a whole bunch of satellites into orbit and scared some birds
SpaceX gets a whole lot of press for leading the charge in the private spaceflight industry, but there’s a number of other companies also vying for their share of the pie. One of them is Rocket Lab, and it demonstrated its growing prowess over the weekend by launching a half dozen satellites into orbit.
As Spaceflight Now reports, the company’s Electron rocket took off from its private launch facility in New Zealand on Sunday, successfully dropping six satellites into place. Company CEO Peter Beck took to Twitter to describe the accuracy of the launch as “exquisite,” while the official Rocket Lab account posted a nice video of the whole thing, including the Electron’s ability to scare the living crap out of some birds.
