Police jailed drunk raccoons in West Virginia because they were being obnoxious
Rabies is no joke, so if you see a wild animal acting weird, it’s always a good idea to both avoid it and alert animal control so they can take a look. When police in Milton, West Virginia, got calls about suspected rabid raccoons acting obnoxious in broad daylight, they discovered that the bandit-faced animals were merely drunk. Yes, drunk.
Officers discovered that the raccoons had been munching on crabapples that had fermented. The tasty treats made the creatures a bit tipsy and caused them to act erratically, much like a bar patron who doesn’t know their limit. So, what do you do with a bunch of drunk raccoons? The same thing you do with a drunk human: stick ’em in a jail cell until they sober up.

Huawei plans to launch sophisticated AR glasses for your phone by 2020
It may not be that clear right now, but augmented reality (AR) will be the next big thing in computing soon, including the mobile kind of computing. Some of the pieces of the AR puzzle are already in place, while others aren’t quite there. Specifically, we need more hardware breakthroughs to make AR glasses exciting, as well as more support from app developers. But several companies are already working on such devices, including Apple and Facebook.
And you can add to the list of AR glasses makers the same company that just unveiled one of the hottest Android phones of the year (a device you can’t buy in the States from the usual smartphone sellers).

Hulu will develop two shows based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Wild Cards’ books
The George R.R. Martin multiverse continues to expand, as Variety reports this week that Hulu is developing multiple shows based on Wild Cards: A book series edited by the Game of Thrones creator. According to sources, Hulu plans to open writers room for two shows set in the Wild Cards universe. Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle, Tremors) is set to write and executive produce both shows for Hulu and Universal Cable Productions.
Wild Cards started as long campaign for a superhero-themed tabletop role-playing game called Superworld, but then evolved into series of contemporary novels and short stories written by a variety of science-fiction authors. Martin and Melinda M. Snodgrass edited the books, and Snodgrass will join Miller in executive producing the show.

Every episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 will be the length of a mini-movie
In the space of just a few days, we’ve learned loads of new details about the final season of Game of Thrones in advance of its premiere next year. For one thing, HBO has officially revealed that it will air in April (which, cough, we told you was the likely premiere month in an earlier post here). HBO also gave us a teaser trailer.
And now, in a Reddit AMA session, the director of 50 percent of season 8 — three of its six episodes — has revealed a few other details, such as the fact that every episode, at more than 60 minutes long, is going to feel like a small movie.

Russia says it’s going to beat Elon Musk and SpaceX’s ‘old tech’ with a nuclear rocket
Elon Musk and SpaceX won’t be leading the reusable rocket space race long, at least not if Russia has anything to say about it. Russia’s Keldysh Research Center has been working on a reusable rocket solution for nearly a decade now, and now it’s ramping up the hype with a new concept video showing how its spacecraft works.
Speaking with reporters, Vladimir Koshlakov explained that Elon Musk and SpaceX pose no real threat to the group’s plans. Musk, Koshlakov says, is relying on technology that will soon be antiquated, while Russia is looking towards shaping the future of spaceflight.

Horse saves itself from California wildfire by falling into a pool
The wildfire raging in California known as the Camp Fire completely destroyed the town of Paradise, claiming businesses, homes, and lives, but at least one creature managed to save itself from the inferno, even if it was a complete accident.
Posted by Paradise resident Jeff Hill, this friendly horse was found stuck in a residential pool where it apparently rode out the firestorm until people returned. The animal, which had become caught in a cover resting on top of the pool, was able to make it out with the help of some passersby, but there’s no telling the horror she witnessed over the past few days.
