Your taste for coffee is buried in your genes, new study says
If you’re a regular coffee drinker there’s a good chance your first taste of black coffee wasn’t an entirely pleasant one, at least according to a new study published in Scientific Reports. The research, which aimed to explain why some individuals develop a taste for coffee, reveals that love of coffee is actually linked to our genes.
The paper explains that individuals who are genetically more sensitive to the bitter taste of caffeine actually end up liking coffee more than those who aren’t. It might seem backwards, but it’s all due to caffeine’s affect on our bodies and brains.

When NASA pointed its Spitzer telescope at Oumuamua they couldn’t even see it
If there’s one space story that 2018 will be remembered for its the numerous ongoing investigations of the first interstellar object ever to be detected by mankind. Oumuamua, the elongated chunk of space stuff that might be an asteroid or might be a comet (or might be something else entirely), slipped around our Sun and back out into space so fast scientists barely had time to spot it. Now, NASA says it has a better idea of its size.
In the days following the detection of Oumuamua back in late 2017, NASA swung its Spitzer Space Telescope in the object’s direction, hoping to learn more about what the cigar-shaped body was and where it was headed. It had long since passed its closest approach to Earth and was already headed back out into space after swinging around the Sun. When NASA commanded the Spitzer telescope to observe it, it didn’t see anything at all.

This tiny $60 box actually delivered on its promise to help me sleep better
I’m a pretty light sleeper but I’ve found some things that help. I always take ear plugs with me when I travel, for example, and at home I have a fan that I run in the summer months because the whirring helps drown out noises. I’ve always been a bit skeptical of sound machines and I’ve tried a couple that didn’t work out, but the Adaptive Sound Technologies LectroFan Evo Sound Machine completely sold me on them. This awesome little gadget plays 22 unique sounds that are all non-looping so you never hear that annoying break. It has 10 different fan sounds, 10 white, pink and brown noise variations, and two different ocean sounds so that it can cover all the bases.
Adaptive Sound Technologies LectroFan Evo White Noise Sound Machine with 22 Unique Non-Looping…: $59.95
Here’s some more information from the product page:
- Provides ten fan sounds, ten white, pink and brown noise variations, and two varieties of ocean sounds — calm, and surf.
- Helps mask disruptive environmental noises so you can fall asleep with ease
- Safe, solid-state design is powered by AC or USB and dynamically creates unique, non-repeating sounds with no moving parts
- Precise volume control, an optional timer, and a 3.5mm connector for headphones or a portable speaker to match your environment and sleep style
- Also ideal for creating a disturbance-free work area, or just reducing the distracting effects of outside noises for a more relaxing environment, day or night

This beautiful Galaxy F concept makes a strong case for foldable phones
The prospect of turning a phone that’s no bigger than the current smartphone size I use into a small tablet sounds more and more exciting to me now that I’ve seen Samsung unveil the Infinity Flex display of the Galaxy F foldable handset that’s supposed to launch at some point in the first quarter of 2019. Samsung, however, didn’t really share the full design of the phone during its SDC18 keynote last week, obfuscating it with the help of an ugly protective case on stage. The images and videos it shared online were more revealing, but they didn’t paint the full picture either. So it’s up to concept creators to imagine what the Galaxy F will look like.

Leaked Galaxy S10 chip benchmark shows performance gains, but iPhone is still king
Samsung’s next flagship smartphone will introduce two next-gen mobile processors, assuming Samsung keeps using Qualcomm and Exynos chips in its flagship devices. Samsung announced the Exynos 9820 earlier this week, while Qualcomm made the Snapdragon 855 official a while ago, though the CPU may be rebranded as Snapdragon 8150 ahead of its release. Both chips are expected to deliver big improvements over their predecessors, including overall performance gains and better energy efficiency.
A new benchmark leak for a processor that’s believed to be the Snapdragon 8150 seems to confirm the big performance bump, although the chip isn’t expected to outperform the A12 Bionic that already powers the latest iPhones.

HP’s Smart Tango Printer is Perfect for Any Smart Home
It seems like anything and everything is connected in the age of the smart home, and it’s awesome. There are so many benefits to using smart gadgets instead of traditional devices that lack connectivity, and prices have come down to the point where smart features are now widely affordable. You can set your coffee maker to automatically start brewing when you get out of bed, you can have your in-ground sprinkler system skip watering your lawn when it rains, or designate certain lights to turn on automatically when you arrive home each night. The possibilities are endless.
When most people think of smart home devices though, they often don’t realize all of the possibilities. Looking beyond basics like smart light bulbs, smart thermostats, and robot vacuums, certain devices gain even more exciting capabilities when you add some smarts. A perfect example is the HP Tango printer.
The world’s first smart printer has so much great functionality thanks to the addition of smart features. From gaining the ability to copy and scan from anywhere to being able to print using a voice command, the HP Tango can do it all. In fact, it can even order ink by itself when it’s about to run out.
Here are some of the best features you’ll find on the HP Tango printer:
- Easy setup: HP’s Tango shows off its smarts from the moment you take it out of the box thanks to a seamless Wi-Fi setup that requires a smartphone for set-up.
- Sleek design: At less than 4 inches high and 8 inches deep, the Tango is about the size of a book, and is perfectly inconspicuous sitting on your bookshelf (with or without the cover accessory). No clunky buttons or clumsy paper trays–just a smooth, modern block that looks at home in your kitchen, living room, or anywhere else in the house, really.
- Cloud control: The Tango is the first printer that supports a cloud-based, two-way network connection. This way, you can print, scan, or copy from any device whether you’re at home or halfway around the world.
- Voice control: This feature is seriously awesome. If you have an Alexa smart speaker like the Amazon Echo, a Google Assistant speaker like the Google Home, or a device with Microsoft Cortana, you can control the HP Tango with voice commands.
- Smart scanning: The HP T Smart App allows you to quickly scan files from your phone and then share them to the cloud, share them to an email address, or print them on the Tango printer. Also cool are features in the app that find document corners and automatically straighten edges.
- HP Instant Ink: Prepare to never think about ink again, because the HP Tango will automatically order ink refills whenever it’s running low.
The HP Tango truly does take printing, copying, and scanning to the next level by adding in terrific smart features that you won’t find anywhere else. Check it out right here on HP’s website to learn more.

Facebook Messenger’s unsend feature is rolling out now on iOS and Android
Facebook users have been begging for a way to unsend messages for years now, and after a lengthy wait, they are finally going to get the chance to do so. On Wednesday, TechCrunch reported that the new feature — officially called “Remove for Everyone” — has begun rolling out in Poland, Bolivia, Colombia and Lithuania for Facebook Messenger on iOS and Android devices. Facebook plans to expand the rollout as soon as possible.
As TechCrunch explains, the feature allows Facebook Messenger users to remove sent messages from a recipient’s inbox within the first ten minutes after the message has been delivered. In other words, you won’t be able to go back and delete or alter messages you sent two years ago, but you can correct a recent error.
