The cheapest Roomba that works with Alexa is at an all-time low for Black Friday

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

iRobot, makers of the beloved Roomba lineup of robot vacuums, announced its official Black Friday sale last week and the star of the show is the Roomba 960. This flagship model is a $700 beast that does it all, and iRobot announced that it would cost just $500 for Black Friday. But wait! A twist came when we told you that Amazon actually has iRobot’s Black Friday sale price beat by $50, so you’d have to be crazy to buy it from anywhere else. Of course $449 is still a hefty chunk of change and not everyone is willing to part with that much for a robot vacuum.

If you want a Roomba that has many of the same features as the 960 but you’re hoping to spend much less money, you’re in luck. From today through the end of the day on Cyber Monday, Amazon is offering the iRobot Roomba 675 Robot Vacuum with Wi-Fi Connectivity at its lowest price ever. It features great suction for solid performance on hard flooring and low-pile carpet, and it also has Alexa compatibility so you can control it with your voice, just like the more expensive Roomba 960. This deal could definitely sell out though, so get in on the action while you still can.

iRobot Roomba 675 Robot Vacuum with Wi-Fi Connectivity, Works with Alexa, Good for Pet Hair, Ca…: $199.00

Here’s more info from the product page:

  • 3-Stage Cleaning System and Dual Multi-Surface Brushes pick up everything from small particles to large debris
  • Patented Dirt Detect sensors alert Roomba to work harder on concentrated areas of dirt, such as high-traffic zones of your home
  • Full suite of intelligent sensors guide the robot under and around furniture to help thoroughly clean your floors
  • Edge-Sweeping Brush is specially designed at a 27-degree angle to sweep debris away from edges and corners
  • Clean and schedule from anywhere with the iRobot HOME App; compatible with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant
  • Runs for up to 90 minutes before automatically docking and recharging
  • Featuring these other Roomba robot essentials – Wi-Fi Connectivity, Auto-Adjust Cleaning Head, Works on Carpets and Hard Floors

Apple’s own Netflix rival is expected to launch next year, but the streaming service will only work on Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. To reach a wider audience, Apple reportedly considered making a Chromecast-like affordable dongle for TVs, as well as an application for smart TVs.

One of the TRAPPIST-1 exoplanets might have an ocean, researchers now say

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Ever since astronomers announced the discovery of seven exoplanets around the star called TRAPPIST-1, researchers have been diving into the data in an attempt to determine what the planets are like. Early on, the prospects for potentially habitable worlds seemed good, but subsequent models suggested that the star at the heart of the system may have burned off any atmosphere the planets once had.

Now, a new study claims to offer a slightly more optimistic scenario that gives at least one of the planets, TRAPPIST-1e, the chance at sustaining an ocean on its surface. The research was published in The Astrophysical Journal.

Google takes ‘Find My Device’ to the next level, adding indoor positioning

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google has made some tweaks to its Find My Device app that will come as welcome news to anyone who misplaces or outright loses their handset. A new update to the app brings indoor mapping support, meaning if you drop your phone in, say, a mall that’s supported (which is a key point — more on that in a second), you’ll be able to see not just that your phone is still at the mall, but where inside the mall it actually is.

Amazon is selling the latest MacBook Pro models for up to $300 off

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Earlier this month, Apple and Amazon put their differences aside and struck a deal to bring several Apple products to Amazon’s website. While some products, like the iPhone, were previously available on Amazon via third-party sellers, the new deal will officially bring Apple and authorized Apple sellers into the fray for the first time. With Black Friday just around the corner, a number of Apple products began appearing on Amazon’s website earlier today.

All in all, Apple and Amazon’s deal should prove to be a mutually beneficial partnership for both companies. While Apple products usually sell extraordinarily well during the holiday shopping season, having devices like the iPhone and iPad front and center on Amazon will only serve to boost sales and help Apple’s bottom line.

If you’re shopping for AirPods deals this holiday season, you’re likely to find some good deals out there, but don’t expect any huge discounts on Apple’s hot wireless earphones.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to score free AirPods this holiday season — as long as you understand that nothing is truly free, and strings are usually attached to anything labeled “free.”

NASA wants to know how much pot Elon Musk smokes

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Elon Musk appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and had a taste of the host’s joint, it was totally on-brand for the risk-taking CEO. Musk is a brilliant guy, but he also likes to push the envelope in ways that tend to worry those he does business with. He’s already gotten in hot water over Tesla drama, including tweeting his intention to take the stock private, and his pot smoking adventure appears to have made things worse.

Now, NASA is planning to review the workplace culture of Musk’s other darling, SpaceX, because some senior NASA officials didn’t like the look of Musk indulging in the devil’s lettuce.

Facebook doesn’t think it should have to pay a fine over Cambridge Analytica

It was one of the biggest tech stories of the year, and arguably set Facebook’s “annus horribilis” in motion, when it was disclosed that the now-shuttered British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica had used data on scores of Facebook users that had been improperly acquired.

The Information Commissioner’s Office, Britain’s privacy watchdog, levied a fine equivalent to $640,000 against the social networking giant. And then today came Facebook’s response: We don’t think we should have to pay.
