Google Lens is one of those neat that Google keeps coming up with. Many Android users are probably familiar with it, especially Pixel owners, as the app can quickly help out when you need information about various things around you and you don’t want to perform a tedious search that involves typing words into a website. Google Lens uses the phone’s camera to identify animals and plants, scan codes, conduct searches for related products, or recognize contact information including phone numbers and addresses. iPhone users can now enjoy the features as well.

Researchers say coffee may combat two devastating brain diseases

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The past few years have brought lots of good news for anyone who considers coffee a vice. Scientists have discovered that various compounds in coffee can help fight a number of diseases including Alzheimer’s, and now a new study is putting even more weight behind the notion that coffee is very good for you.

The work, which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests that not only does coffee battle Parkinson’s but also another incurable brain disease called Lewy body dementia. Conducted by scientists at Rutgers, the study points to the combined effects of caffeine and a fatty acid present in coffee called EHT as potentially playing key roles in disease fighting.

New Samsung smartphone series called ‘Rize’ might be on the way

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’ve reported in depth at this point that Samsung remains the top global smartphone maker in the world as ranked by shipments, though its numbers have been dropping. Squeezed at the low end by inexpensive yet credible challenges from Chinese handset makers, and of course at the top end by a certain company from Cupertino, Samsung’s mobile business has been in need of a jolt for a while now. It seems poised to get that in a big way next year, with the planned release of the company’s much-anticipated foldable smartphone, as well as the Galaxy S10.

And now we may have yet another product series to add to that mix.

NASA’s asteroid probe already found water on Bennu

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA’s OSIRIS-REx asteroid probe only just arrived at its target a week ago but it’s already making important scientific observations of the space rock known as Bennu.

The mission seeks to learn as much about the asteroid as possible and NASA thinks it might reveal clues about the early days of the solar system and the material that ultimately formed Earth and the planets in our neighborhood. Now, just days after the spacecraft arrived at the rock, NASA is announcing that it’s already found evidence of water locked in some of Bennu’s clay. This is a tantalizing hint at the asteroid’s past but might actually raise more questions than it answers.

Uber Eats Pool could make ordering food a whole lot cheaper

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’re looking to get around town and aren’t keen on getting price gouged by taxi cabs, you can’t really go wrong with Uber Pool. As you’re likely familiar with by now, Uber Pool offers passengers incredibly cheap rates because it gives riders going in a similar direction the ability to split the fare. And now comes word that Uber is looking to employ that same strategy to Uber Eats, the company’s food delivery arm.

Originally brought to light by TechCrunch, the ride sharing giant has confirmed that it’s been busy testing a new service dubbed Uber Pool Eats. As the name somewhat implies, Uber Pool Eats will enable drivers to pick up multiple orders from a single restaurant and deliver the food to customers who live in the same vicinity.

Woman’s fatal brain-eating infection linked to tap water

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

People will try just about anything to combat a bad case of the sniffles. Whether it’s from a cold or allergies, a runny or stuffy nose is incredibly annoying, and one of the at-home treatments that’s gained traction in recent years is the use of a “neti pot” to run water through the sinuses. Doing so can provide at least temporary relief, but doctors now believe that a Seattle woman’s fatal brain condition may have been linked to her use of the product.

In a paper published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, the 69-year-old woman’s case is explained in detail. She performed sinus irrigation to help with a sinus infection, but used tap water to do so. That water is believed to have contained an amoeba that ultimately took her life many months later.

Attention, Nickelback haters: ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ would like a word

Is Wade Wilson — aka the Merc With the Mouth, aka Deadpool — secretly a Nickelback fan? It sure seems that way in a new clip that’s been released in advance of Once Upon a Deadpool, the shameless cash grab of a Deadpool 2 remake that hits theaters this week and which has been sufficiently sanitized to earn a PG-13 rating. Also, proceeds from the movie will go towards fighting cancer. But first, back to Nickelback.
