Waze-like incident reporting shows up in Google Maps, but it’s not functional yet
As is the case with many of its products, Google doesn’t have just one navigation solution for its customers. In addition to Google Maps, Google also owns Waze, which is very popular with users thanks to its crowdsourced incident reports that can make navigating unknown and familiar territories alike even easier than with Google Maps.
A few weeks ago, we found out that Google is working on finally bringing a version of the Waze incident reports that everyone loves so much to Google Maps, and it looks like incident reporting is now live in Maps. Before you get too excited, however, you should know the feature doesn’t work yet.

New York state may legalize cannabis as early as 2019 under Cuomo’s new plan
Growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, marijuana was often touted as nothing more than a dangerous gateway drug that would inevitably lead users down a path of joblessness, heroin, and perhaps death. It all sounds comically extreme, but that was the narrative many lawmakers pushed way back in the day. Flash forward to 2018, and we’re living in a completely different world. With many of the scare tactics surrounding marijuana now nothing more than distant memories, marijuana legalization is on the rise all across the country.
While it’s perhaps not surprising to see states like Colorado and Nevada embrace pot legalization, it now appears that even New York is planning to get in on the action. Hardly a surprise, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo this past August put together a group tasked with drafting a bill that would allow for the recreational use of marijuana across the state while taking into account variables such as public health, crime, and, of course, potential revenue.

Mega-shark Megalodon may have died off because it got too hot
The sharks that roam today’s oceans can be fearsome, but they don’t really compare to some of the species that dominated the seas millions of years ago. The Megalodon — a massive shark that is thought to have died out around 2.6 million years ago — has left plenty of fossils behind for researchers to find, but determining what exactly killed the species off has proven a big challenge.
As LiveScience reports, new research was presented recently at the annual American Geophysical Union conference that suggests the shark could regulate its body temperatures similar to some species of modern sharks. However, the ancient shark’s much higher body temperature may have been its downfall.

‘True Detective’ season 3 is going to tap into what made season 1 so great
Maybe the third time really is the charm.
A pair of cops, plumbing the depths of the evil that men do amid the horror and strange beauty of the backwoods of the South. Dark, twisted evil. A grisly crime, regret that haunts old men, questionable motives — all of that and more, thankfully, seems like what’s in store for us when True Detective returns in for its third season January 13th.
We should note that this is just one of several key dates on what is already proving to be an incredibly busy 2019 release calendar for HBO, with new installments of some of the hottest properties on television.

The Galaxy S10 might give Apple’s Face ID a run for the money
The Galaxy S10 phones will feature a stunning Infinity-O edge-to-edge screen design, featuring a circular or pill-shaped camera hole near one of the corners. The camera cutout is a neat alternative to the infamous notch that everyone but Samsung copied this year, but it makes something along the lines of Face ID seemingly impossible.
Samsung, a report claimed, would not bring iris scanning to the Galaxy S10 series. With all that in mind, I wondered whether Samsung’s premium Galaxy S10 versions, the Plus and 5G models, would feature some sort of Face ID-like support, given that they’ll have two holes in the screens, at most, for the selfie cams. We still don’t have a definitive answer to that, but a discovery suggests Samsung hasn’t given up on facial recognition technology.

Netflix reveals which shows and movies were binged the most in 2018
Netflix famously keeps data about viewership and other user behaviors close to the vest, often to the consternation of the Hollywood and other partners that the company works with. This means that most of what you read in terms of how various types of content is faring on the service is really just informed guesswork.
Except in limited cases, like today, Netflix decides to give everyone a peek inside its secretive operation. Granted, it’s a small and extremely limited peek, but a look nonetheless that we didn’t have before.

Tesla to offer full refunds for buyers who can’t take advantage of the $7,500 tax credit
For some time now, the purchase of electric vehicles has been incentivized via substantial income tax credits. As currently structured, EV buyers can enjoy a generous $7,500 tax credit when purchasing a car from a manufacturer that has delivered fewer than 200,000 EVs in the United States. Once that 200,000 unit threshold is reached, the tax credit goes down to $3,750 about six months later. The $3,750 credit then remains in effect for a period of six months and goes down to $1,875 for the six months after that.
As it pertains to Tesla, the automaker hit the 200,000 delivery mark this past July, which is to say that the federal tax credit afforded to Tesla buyers is poised to drop down to $3,750 at the end of the month. In light of this, Tesla is offering prospective buyers a chance to cancel their order if Tesla can’t deliver a car to them before 2019.
