At this point, Facebook probably can’t wait for 2018 to be over and done with. But in what seemed like an instant, Facebook lost a good amount of public goodwill when the full scope of the Cambridge Analytica scandal began to emerge a few months back. Ever since then, Facebook has seemingly been on the defensive.

Unfortunately for Facebook, the company appears to be fighting a growing number of battles on many fronts these days. The latest scandal to hit Facebook comes in the form of a new New York Times expose which alleged that third-party companies like Netflix and Spotify had read/write access to ostensibly private user messages. Addressing the matter, Facebook VP of Product Partnerships Ime Archibong penned a blog post explaining what exactly happened and why.

It was just this past May that Amazon had to explain itself after Alexa recorded a family’s private chats on their Echo speaker, and then accidentally sent them to a third party. At the time, Amazon explained that Alexa heard a word in the background that sounded like “Alexa” at which point it recorded the conversation and sent it as a message to a contact. A new report now details a similar Alexa mishap. But this time around, it’s Amazon that sent an Echo user more than 1,000 recordings belonging to someone else.

Buying iOS apps for your friends and family who also use iPhones and iPads is possible, but in-app purchases aren’t supported. If you want to buy in-app purchases for them, you can always get App Store gift cards for them and let them complete the actual in-app transactions after they top up their accounts with the new credit.
